  1. Yes most of BigBill's caches are in Harriman. I believe 25 of his 42 caches are still active. I hope people will continue to enjoy his hides for a long time. I hope to see some of his caches,I have never looked for a cache yet. Lew (Bill's Brother)
  2. Only been there once, and only looked for a few caches while passing through. Great place. I found a bookmark list, and if it's accurate and up to date, lists 110 caches. Looks like over half of BigBill6 caches are still active, and seem to get happy logs. I was surprised at that. (Don't know if every single one of them is in Harriman, but I'll bet most of them). I'd go for it yourself, assuming you don't have a problem dealing with the with the pain in the butt permit system. And remember the .25 mile rule.
  3. your point.................

  5. Although I am not in much of a position to do any caching these days,I have been following this closely.First of all,it seems to me that some of us are losing control. This is a time to band together and stop the fighting. Its a time to try and see how we can best handle all of this.So far I have not seen the one thing that I am looking for,and that is a time frame. Is it a policy already...is there a date to put it all into effect? Will they grandfather all the older caches...and start from a set date.I think we need some info before we talk about going in and removing caches. I have many, many caches in Harriman and i will archive them if I have to,but before I do..I want to see something offical, not just a lot of talk.Im hoping to be able to get around a bit by the summer time,it seems that the only hiking i will be able to do is go after my own caches, and im not even sure of that. That is a decision I will have to make later on.I have received many offers of help and cant tell you how much I appreciate it,but as things stand now,I want to try and go after my own caches. If anything..i will need the exercise.I hope in the days to come i can see something more offical. Thank you..we have a great bunch of people here and at a time like this...thats a BIG moral booster
  6. I would like to take this opportunity to thank so many of you for your generous offers of help.I cant tell you how much I appreciate it.It seems to me..the way i read it now..caching is never going to be the same. However,I have decided to wait it out..and not do anything, until we really know how it will all end up.Im sure somewhere along the way,a date will be set for us to comply with the changes.Im hoping by then that i will be better able to get out there and do what has to be done.Again..let me thank all of you.It just proves that we still have wonderful folks out there who will help others. It gave me a big boost when i needed it most.Thank you. Bill
  7. This is a rough one for me.I just came down with bone cancer, and while im being treated..i can only get around with a walker.I have about 45 to 50 caches in and around Harriman.I would never be able to get out there now and comply.Id have to remove a few years worth of work...and better.About the only thing I can do now...is watch and see what happens from now on.Im hoping to get out there again,I sure do miss it.Talk about bad timing.
  8. Im in the Harriman state park area in New York.To date I have placed 45 caches and we do not have that problem here.I suggest you place more caches...and maybe others will follow...
  9. I have about 45 caches placed, and most are in Harriman state park.In about 3 or 4,I placed scented candles in them.Everyone of them has been dug up and the heavy plastic container destroyed.Skunks and Racoons could not do that.I figure its a Bear.Anyone else have that problem?
  10. I was very happy to see that you folks picked my caches to find.I have had a ball putting them out.I know they are not the hardest ones you have found, but at 69...its the best I can do.I really enjoyed ALL the e- mails. Took a while to read them all....and I thank everyone of you. One question...what does Jonboy mean by..."Lame drive and dump"caches.
  11. what is the difference in feet from w 074 03.500 to w 074 03.501 or say from 03.500 to 03.600
  12. I have 32 caches out there. How long will they show up on the web site...I cant see someone...5 years from now..clicking on the web site,,and seeing them there
  13. Thank you all for your kind words,it makes it easier for me to play the game,A special thanks to all my friends who have found some of my caches, and took the time to say so. Bill
  14. I rate my caches ,the same way everyone does,if i put down 2 stars, its the same as a like cache of 2 stars. The complants i spoke about, came as e-mails,and i answered them, Told them pretty much what i said here, dont go for them
  15. I hate when someone complains that a cache i put out was to easy to find.It has happened twice now.Im 67 years old, had heart surgery, cancer surgery, and i have a bad back.Yet i have gone after and found 2and 3 star caches.Im in good shape, but pass the stage of playing mountain goat.I have 22 caches out there, and none of them can be reached just by sticking your hand out the car window, many are at least a mile walk round trip, but i dont hang off mountains any more. It seems to me that if you see a 2 star cache, stay away from it...but dont complain.I still think you young guys could use a break once in a while and get an easy one.I wiil continue to put them out..so good hunting.
  16. I have put out 23 caches to date. How long can thay stay out there.Seems to me,thay can outlast me
  17. Thanks for the info...my map is a 1995 edition.and only gives main cords....but its not enough for what i want.I will look into getting an updated map...Thank you
  18. I do most of my caching in Harriman State park in NY.I have a NY...NJ Trail Conference map...but it does not have lat. and long cord.Is there a program that i can use to add cords to my map.
  19. Im 67 and had angioplasty surgery last year and can still run up and down these hills.I only wish I had heard of geocaching years ago,but im having a ball.I always wondered what i would do when I retired, and this is a great way to spend your time and get the exercise i want.
  20. thanks...all of you....this has been a big help
  21. please tell me what the diff.would be...in feet .say from a cords reading of 41 17.358 to 41 17.340....thank you
