Pat_in_Utah
Watching my local wheater last night, he said the "pressure" was 30.06 and steady. I look at my 60CS and it says "barametric" was 1018.8mb (or something close). I AM looking at the same things on TV and my 60CS - right? - barametric pressure? What unit is the TV using? What unit is the 60CS using - milli bars? Can I make my 60CS use the same as the TV? Thanks bunches! Pat Quote Link to comment
+dino_hunters
THe TV is using inHg, that is inches of mercury, while the gps is useing millibars. You can changes the setting on your gps. Inches of mercury is standard in the USA, while millibars is a metric thing. Quote Link to comment
Moun10Bike
The units they use in the TV weather are inches of mercury (Hg). To set your altimeter up using these units, enter the main menu, select "Setup", and then select "Units". In the "Pressure" dropdown at the bottom of the page, select "Inches (Hg)". That should do it! Quote Link to comment
five_user
make sure you're looking at the right plot also. my 76s can display both ambient and barometric pressure plots. i'm pretty sure you're going to want the ambient (not default) because it is not adjusted for current elevation, but sea level elevation like the tv weatherman's barometer. fyi: inches of mercury x 33.864 = millibars Quote Link to comment
+Rubberhead
Can I make my 60CS use the same as the TV? Menu => Menu => Setup => Units Then select "Inches (Hg)" under the "Pressure" pull-down at the very bottom on the screen. In the terminology that Garmin uses the Barometer measures "normalized" pressure while ambient pressure is the measure of actual atomospheric pressure on the GPSr. Normalized pressure is the pressure of the existing pressure front if the measurement were to be taken at sea-level. Most weather stations report normalized pressure. Quote Link to comment
Pat_in_Utah
Cool - thanks - I got it in in/HG! I WAS wondering what the Ambient pressure was!? The 60CS is set for non-ambient pressure by default. I'll compare it to the TV periodically - it'll make more sense for me that way. Thanks all, Pat Quote Link to comment
+Desert_Warrior
Another note: Do NOT expect your GPSR to read the exact same as the TV station does. Your elevation may be different. Quote Link to comment

You actually should calibrate the barometer exactly to a local television station. A normalized barometer reading should be independent of elevation. Quote Link to comment
