+GomezK
I came across a wierd travel bug in a cache today. It was called chain reaction. It had some directions in it and a photo copy of a tag & number. I am not quite sure what to do or if I should do anything. I tried to search for it online but I couldn't figure it out. I may have to go back there and check it out again. Please help... Quote Link to comment
+g-o-cashers
It was started here in Massachusetts by a long time cacher dhjennings. The geocaching.com page for this bug is here. The owner's page for it is here. You shouldn't remove the copy of it you found from the cache where you found it. Once you've seen a copy, note the bug number, go online, print out the bug page and drop a copy into another cache(s). You can then grab the bug online and drop it into the cache where you placed it. Take a look at the map for the bug -- its reaction is picking up steam. GO$Rs Quote Link to comment
+bigredmed
Looks like a cool idea. Hope it gets out our way. Quote Link to comment
+GomezK
Thanks for the info. I really helped. I have created a clone I just need to place it somewhere. Wonder if this will really work? GomezK Quote Link to comment
+KC5DRI / N3YRG and kids
Tried to locate the bugs page by using the tracking number on the main TB search page, and it comes up not a valid bug. Did a advanced search of TB's and found it. But when I tried to log it, I again get not a valid bug? Also the TB page only shows the owner having the bug. Friday it had a long list of notes and now only 2. Quote Link to comment
+GomezK
Made a new bug and planeted it, but I can't seem to log it. The travel bug number keeps coming up not valid. Any suggestions... Quote Link to comment
movingaverage
I'm having the same problem with trying to log a clone of the bug that I left today. Quote Link to comment
+GomezK
Emailed the owner. He stated that it is inactive right now. He said we will just have to wait and see what will happen. But if it is inactive, how come other people have been able to log right onto it within the past few days? Quote Link to comment
+GomezK
I just checked my page and the log went through. I can't figure it out. Wow! I didn't get the option of completing #6 in the directions so I just edited my log and placed the name there. At least I am happy now Quote Link to comment
+g-o-cashers
I noticed this morning that this bug is no longer valid and doesn't count as a bug "find" any longer. Bummer, I thought it was an interesting idea! GO$Rs Quote Link to comment
+ThePetersPack
This artical appeared in the March issue of "Todays Cacher" Some bugs are designed to turn the TB concept on its head. The Alien Army of Chaos was created using multiple travel bugs with the same tracking number. As they are now dispersed across North and South America, and Europe each movement of one bug in a certain locale can register as a several thousand-mile trip for the tracking number. If this is hard to understand you can at least appreciate the name! I fail to see how "Chain Reaction" differs? Quote Link to comment

Bummer, I thought it was an interesting idea! GO$Rs The owner of the Chain Reaction travel bug was contacted by admin and told that the travel bug number was disabled and that the travel bug tag would be replaced by Groundspeak. I know you've already seen the thread, but for those that haven't read the details, the Chain Reaction -- Fizzled thread in the New England Geocaching Group discusses the same topic. How about 12 TBs with the same number compared to potentially tens of thousands (or 89,273 as of today, if it's goal was met) TBs with the same number? Seems like a slight difference to me!
