I did purchase a usb to serial adapter, but i can't get it to work in Mapsource. Any Ideas? I'm assuming you don't have an available serial port or you would just use the serial cable. How does your USB to serial adapter not work? You will need to choose serial GPS and pick (or type the port name into the combo box) I would call Garmin suport. They have proven to be very helpful in resolving these issues in the past. Quote Link to comment
+thesanctuary
Exactly, i don't have a serial port on my laptop. The problem is that i can't get the port installed. I was just wondering if it was me or were other people having this problem. Do you know, or anybody, know where i can find some drivers for my usb cable? Winxp automatically detects the cable, but it doesn't install a port. Thanks. Quote Link to comment
+FindUFindME
Do you have Hotsync software installed for Palm? It tends to be hoggish over ports and needs to be turned off or uninstalled before it'll let your GPS talk to your computer. Quote Link to comment
+HartClimbs
I bought a Belkin USB/Serial adapter (as I have the same problem). I have a thinkpad T40 with no serial port, but just plug the adapter into my USB port, and attach the Rino 120 serial cable to the other end of the adapter. Works like a champ. Quote Link to comment

So, did you have to install any drivers or anything like that? Did it make a port in windows? Quote Link to comment

It came with drivers and was a quick 5 minute install and I use it with Mapsource Metro Quote Link to comment

+Team Giblert
I use an ATEN USB adaptor. It was dirt cheap ($20 Cdn about US$15) The model is UC-232A (it's the same as the IO Gear, but cheaper). Quote Link to comment
