Maynerd
How come no one makes a USB Data cable for Sportrak? It's not like USB is "new". I'm sure there are more computers out there with USB ports than 9 pin serial ports! I know I can get a 9 pin--->USB adapter cable and a 9 pin serial Data cable, but come on, those two cables combined cost more that what I paid for my Sportrak! Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
The sport track doesn't have a USB interface would be my WAG. The angle of attack is a USB to serial converter for the PC you want to attach it too. Quote Link to comment
+Stunod
The NMEA 0183 Standard defines how GPS units must "talk" to other devices, and that is thru serial communication. Some GPS units come with an additional USB port to allow faster uploads of maps/waypoints. Quote Link to comment

dccbasser
i had to buy the serial to usb cable because my sportrac pro would not work on my serial port number 1. would not upload the 5.0 firmware and any maps from direct send. took it to work and downloaded the firmware fine and bought the usb cable and it worked fine for uploading maps from direct send. port 1 even found my serial number and port 1 but would not work right. so i will use usb. computer says my port 1 is working. Maynerd
Ok, I'm a noob. I do have a serial port on my computer. Broke down and bought a charger /data cable combo. Hooked it up fine and started downloading waypoints last night. Works like a dream so far... Quote Link to comment
+Desert_Warrior
On top of that, most GPS programs do not support USB communication. Having said that, ExpertGPS is working on it. And while I do not trust the tech support from National Geographic TOPO any more, rumor is that they also say they will soon support the Garmin 60 series.... if you want to believe them. NG TOPO tech support hasn't got a clue about USB! Quote Link to comment
