weRlostNDwoods
We are trying to post our first vitual cache, which includes finding a certain type of automobile that can be found all over the country. When posting it on gc.com, it asks for the cords. We tried leaving the cords blank, but it gave me an error message. I posted fake cords, which put the cache in the middle of the ocean. Can someone tell me how to fix this situation? Thanks in advance. Quote Link to comment
+Polgara
Are you sure its a virtual cache? It sounds like a locationless cache. If it is a locationless, there was a moratorium on their approval in the spring, I don't know if that has been lifted or not. This cache sounds similar to what you are trying to do, maybe I'm wrong. weRlostNDwoods
Yes!!!! Very similar to that cache. It is listed as a virt. and has no cords. Thats what we are going for. BTW, Thanks for the quick response. Quote Link to comment
+Team GPSaxophone
Right now, that type of cache will not be approved. No word yet on when they might allow them again. Quote Link to comment
weRlostNDwoods
Our virtual was shot down in flames. I have seen others very similar to the cache we wanted to place, but have been approved . Since we don't own GC.COM, there's no use complaining. Thanks for all the info, and have a GREAT New Year! +erik88l-r
I'm sorry your cache was "shot down in flames". Here is a description of locationless caches which explains the moratorium http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx#reverse You may also want to read the rest of the geocaching guidelines http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx to be sure that you understand any other limitations or restrictions. Thanks and Happy New Year. erik - geocaching.com admin Edited December 29, 2003 by erik88l-r Quote Link to comment
weRlostNDwoods
We have read, and understand the rules and regulations several times. What we don't get, is why the same cache type has been approved for other caches, such as the one as Ce'Nedra spoke of. If we are missing something, please fill us in, and the subject will be dropped. Otherwise, we may have to do as others, and find an alternative to GC.COM. Quote Link to comment
+Team GPSaxophone
Look at the date, 3/6/02. Yellow Jeep Fever was approved long before the moratorium on Locationless caches. This cache has been grandfathered in, but new submissions like this are not being approved. Quote Link to comment
+bons
From http://www.geocaching.com/about/guidelines.aspx (bolding added) Reverse Virtual (Locationless Caches) Locationless caches are a variation of virtual caches, but with no specific location to visit. Instead, the cache hunter is instructed to search for an object that meets certain criteria and report its coordinates. Many times the seeker is also asked to provide an original photograph of the location to provide proof of visitation. In the future these will have their own section, but currently there is a moratorium on new locationless caches. Virtual and Reverse Virtual (or Locationless) Caches These are special categories of caches that ask the seeker to find a pre-existing item to log. While previous guidelines for these categories were somewhat loose to encourage innovation, it is now appropriate to add clarification. Some earlier postings do not meet these clarified guidelines, although they are allowed to stay as grandfathered caches. They will not be considered as justification or as precedents for future submissions. Quote Link to comment
