M_an_M
As some of you probably know, the base map of my legend (and probably most other GPSr's) isnt all that good ... it has major interstates and a few of the bigger side roads. I use mapsource and was wondering if/how I could transfer maps from the mapsource program into my GPS so I can get a lot more of the roads viewable on my GPS. Not sure if this is possible, just wondering if anyone knows whether or not it can be done. Quote Link to comment
Bozz
If you have Mapsource, then you should have Metroguide USA or something of that sort? Not sure what you have, what do you have with your Mapsource??? Bozz Quote Link to comment
Wulfster
You just select the region you wish to upload (using the "Map Tool" from the toolbar), and choose File - Save to... - Serial GPS. You can only store a few zones in your GPS at a time, but it's easy enough to load new ones if you need to. The only negative is that it overwrites some of your base data that ships with the GPS, but you can download it from the Garmin website if you ever need it back. Quote Link to comment
M_an_M
Thanks Wulfster - thats exactly what I was looking for! Quote Link to comment
Wulfster
One more bonus once you've loaded the maps (in addition to having more detail): the track your position on the map feature doesn't work (or at least it didn't for me) until you load in the detail maps. Quote Link to comment
M_an_M
the track your position on the map feature doesn't work (or at least it didn't for me) until you load in the detail maps. What/where is that? I assume its a feature on the GPS that keeps the arrow on the middle of the screen?? Quote Link to comment
Sparky-Watts
One more bonus once you've loaded the maps (in addition to having more detail): the track your position on the map feature doesn't work (or at least it didn't for me) until you load in the detail maps. That feature worked on my Legend before I loaded MapSource. Quote Link to comment
Wulfster
It's in the options on your GPS (something like "follow roads" or "snap to roads"; I don't have my GPS handy). Before I loaded maps, I'd be close, but never right on the road. With the Mapsource maps, it's very accurate. Quote Link to comment
M_an_M
Ok, got it now. Ive also noticed the arrow is sometimes off the road (even using the base maps). Im going to give it a try as soon as I get home tonight. Thx again for the help from all. Quote Link to comment
