  1. All the info you need may be on this site, but not ALL in one central location, like this book would provide. And unless you've got some very high-tech equipment, you cant take the info on this web page out into the woods with you! Once you're on the trail, you shouldn't still be reading the manual. Well, there's nothing wrong with having a reference available to you out in the field, right? I don't know about you, but I can't read a big instruction manual and remember everything thats in it.

  3. Im not sure if this is old news or not ... I did a quick search on the forums and didn't see anything (feel free to Markwell if its already been covered) Complete Idiot's Guide to Geocaching is a book being sold on Amazon.com. Looks like our sport is going more mainstream!!
  4. I've never heard of anyone using a metal detector before for geocaching, just wondering if anyone has before. I realize this would not work for plastic/tupperware/non-metal containers, but for certain caches that use ammo cans or some other metal container, I suppose a metal detector could make the difference between a find and a DNF. Also, would anyone consider using a metal detector "cheating" or "not playing in the spirit of geocaching?" (btw, ive never used a metal detector to geocache, but would be curious to see how much it helped....)
  5. This has probably already been covered, but I couldnt find it: If you have city select 5 on a laptop, and an etrex hooked up to the laptop, will everything work normally (seeing your position real-time on the map, finding resturants, etc...)? Im assuming it will work, but thought i'd ask here first. Thanks
  6. Thanks for the info, I'll give it a try tonight!
  7. OK, Ive now used both Plucker and CacheMate on my old Palm 3c and I like both. The one major difference that ive found is that in Plucker, it is pretty easy to search for caches. There is an index with all the letters of the alphabet and you can click to whatever letter you want. CacheMate, however, does not have this (unless Im just missing it). I think Ive got about 700-800 caches in my PDA, and Im pretty sure Im going to switch back to Plucker now, just so I can search easier.
  8. Nevermind, user error ... nothing to see here, move along.....
  9. I agree. Also, when you are using "North Up", the arrow (you) is centered on the screen ..... when in "track up" mode, the arrow (you) are closer to the bottom of the screen, allowing you to see further ahead on the map (at least thats how it is on my 60C).
  10. You need to install Trips & Waypoints software that came with your 60cs. It alters your Mapsource program to include USB drivers. After you install T&W, you will notice a little pulldown arrow on the "send to GPS" and "receive from GPS" buttons in your mapsource program. Click on the pulldown arrow, and select "USB GPS". Hope this works.
  11. Here's the direct link: http://www.garmin.com/support/download_details.jsp?id=441 And here's what they did: Changes made from version 3.00 to 3.01 Beta: Added Marine Colors option to the map setup for displaying BlueCharts similar to MapSource. Moved the Day/Night display mode from the map setup to the display setup. It still modifies map colors, but separate color-scheme selections have been added for day and night modes. Corrections to Polish translations. Lock On Road option is no longer turned on when starting a Follow Road route. This feature is only turned on or off manually. Approaching cross-street information is available with Lock On Road turned off. Improved guidance text for turns onto on/off ramps or generic roads.
  12. Yep, that worked ..... cleared the memory, then updated to Firmware v3.01, and averaging is working again, thanks!
  13. Ive got the same problem, my 60C will not average anymore
  14. Nope, I installed the software that came with the 60c and it made a change to my Metroguide. It installed little pull-down menus to the "transfer to GPS" and "transfer from GPS" buttons that list "serial GPS" and "USB GPS". Previously those little pull-down menus were not there and it could only be used via serial cable (COM port). I just chose USB GPS and all was well!
  15. This might have been covered already but I havent found it. I just got my 60c in the mail and I have MapSource MetroGuide ver 4. I can't get them to connect to each other because Metroguide only has connections for serial and I only got a USB connector with the GPS. Is there any way around this other than to buy a USB to serial adapter or go buy City Select 5? Thanks in advance
  16. I'll be getting my 60C in the mail in a few days and I have a few questions (Im upgrading from an etrex legend): 1) Will MetroGuide Mapsource v.4 work with the 60C? 2) Is the battery compartment cover of the 60C the same as the e-trex's? (I have a car mount for the legend that uses a special batt. compartment) 3) Will I be able to use the Legend's DC power adapter on the 60C? Thaks in advance! -Max
  17. OK, thats what I remember it from! Just like you, Im so glad Im addicted to something that involves moving more than once every 5 or 6 hours!
  18. Unfortunately, I know exactly what this guy is talking about. Played EQ for a little over a year and, luckily, am addicted to geocaching now But I was just wondering what server you played on, Owoomp sounds very familiar to me, and I played on Tarew marr .... oh well, just wondering!

    How Long?

OK, I waited the 5 days, checked paypal and it says payment cleared, but the subscription ID still doesnt work. It gives em the following error: Error: That subscription number was not found in the system. You may already be activated. Visit your my cache page and view your profile as others see you to see if you are listed as a premium member. I checked already to see if I was a member and I couldn't open a member-only cache. Does it usually take this long to get activated??
