+SamDeG
The EU has decided that to stay competitive with the U.S., they have to develop a GPS system of their own. Apparantly they are afraid of the U.S.'s power to unilaterally shut off GPS. They also thought that redundancy is a good idea in case one system or the other fails. (As I geocacher, I know the importance importance of reduncancy.) They also want to develop it for expressly for the civilian market. (although why that makes a difference I don't know) They claim it will cost 3.2 Billion Euros (1 Euro=90 cents). So what does everyone think? BTW:Galileo homepage @: http://europa.eu.int/comm/energy_transport/en/gal_en.html (pretty soon the EU might want their own internet too!) It's an inside joke <> Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
To have a civilian GPS system, they will have to pay to use it. So you will need a reason to pay. Which will be what? Greater accuracy? That it won't get shut off in a war? Quote Link to comment

So many different countries involved but in times of "difficulty" how will these countries divy up the control etc etc. Cheers, Kerry. I never get lost everybody keeps telling me where to go Quote Link to comment
