+Invisible Maniac
The article that got me started thinking: http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2002/13aug_moontrees.htm?list92583 quote:August 13, 2002: Scattered around our planet are hundreds of creatures that have been to the Moon and back again. None of them are human. They outnumber active astronauts 3:1. And most are missing. They're trees. "Moon Trees." NASA scientist Dave Williams has found 40 of them and he's looking for more. "They were just seeds when they left Earth in 1971 onboard Apollo 14," explains Williams. "Now they're fully grown. They look like ordinary trees--but they're special because they've been to the Moon." How they got there and back is a curious tale. It seems to me that besides trying to find the ones that aren't listed (since it seems we spend so much time in smaller parks), heck, it might be fun for some enterprising geocachers to visit all of the ones that have been found. The actual list of trees. http://nssdc.gsfc.nasa.gov/planetary/lunar/moon_tree.html Whaddaya think? Quote Link to comment
MyBoys&Me
I'd never heard of the Moon Trees - how interesting! Sounds like a great idea for a virtual. Quote Link to comment
+Salvelinus
I see some of them listed only have a county and state name with no other informaion. What's up with those? Anyone? PuzzleBug
Ah -- A fellow NASA Science News member! I received the email this morning about the Moon Trees and was thinking the same thing. I thought that if the GPS coords were listed for some of those trees, I might try and visit one. How do we get the coords of the known trees? Quote Link to comment
Lyra
I subscribe to the same e-news thing and got the same e-mail this morning. It got something bubbling in my head and you beat me to the punch. Not a bad idea! Post it! Quote Link to comment

+briansnat
I've known about the moon trees for some time. You can actually have, if not an actual moon tree, the direct descendant of one: Check out: http://www.historictrees.org/TreeDirectory/TreeListAll.asp I never thought of it as a cache idea, but it is a great one!
