+georgeandmary
This is concerning my Locationless Cache.. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.asp?ID=29868 A person emailed me asking permision to log the find since he knows the where abouts of a qualifying wall but has been asked by the 'owners' not to tell anyone where it is. Wyland's Second wall was moved to an elemetary school site. Thc cacher has talked to the pricipal of the school and was told that the that they do not want people knowing that they have the wall. There is security in the area so the cacher cannot take a picture. The cacher is willing to give me the coordinates in private so long as they are not posted on the site. Should I let the cacher claim the find for this wall? I'm leaning toward no since I'm not one for giving in to the man. I'd have snuck a photo while no one was looking and ran like hell. But not everyone thinks like me. What do you think? george Remember: Half the people you meet are below average. Quote Link to comment
+Jamie Z
I would encourage the cacher to post about his attempts to log this one... sounds like a very interesting story. But as far as a find? Um, well... I have a hard time with any locationless, but being as unbiased as I can be, I still think it should be logged as a "note." My logic is that in order to log a physical cache as a find, one must (should) sign the logbook. In order to log a locationless, you must take a photo... or whatever it is that you're asked to do. If I see a physical cache, but can't get to it to sign the logbook, then no-find... same here. Even though he knows about the wall, he can't "sign the logbook." Jamie Quote Link to comment

Ok, well...I consider myself pretty intelligent, but I cannot understand the reasoning behind that. I wonder if the principal suffers from some sort of paranoia psychosis? Is he afraid people will deface the painting? With all that security in the area, I wonder why he would be afraid of that... quote:There is security in the area so the cacher cannot take a picture.... I voted "no" for the same reasons you stated...there are plenty of ways to discretely take a picture. $5.15/hr security guard or not. Oh, incidentally (you probably already know this) but a security droid has only the same powers any other citizen does...he cannot legally shoot anyone for taking a picture. (I'd take the picture and run too...all they can attempt to do is get a criminal trespass warrant on a person and that person wouldn't be able to return to the site...) JM-99 Quote Link to comment

+culpc
I wonder if the person in question actully knows where the wall is. As a HS administrator, I don't necessarily condone people running around my building, however, anyone with a good reason can go about anywhere they want. They may get an escort, but we are a public institution, and as such, available to the public as long as it doesn't interrupt the educational process. Fat, drunk, and stupid is no way to go through life, son! Quote Link to comment

MyBoys&Me
On Wyland's website, both the exact location, school name, and even the Director of the School's name is posted, along with several pictures of #2 in it's present location. So the cacher's claim that the school said they don't want anyone to know where it is ... well, anyone who followed the links on your cache page DOES know. And so does everyone at that school. It's part of the building - it wasn't "moved" there, and it can't be stolen, so security shouldn't be an issue with the administration. It's actually great publicity. Thanks, by the way, for getting my attention about Wyland - had never heard of his work, and it's breathtaking. Wish I was anywhere near one of the walls (and not just so I could log the cache!) +Lazyboy & Mitey Mite
Oh I'd probably let him log it. But I'm easy. There aren't any chamionships on the line here, this is still a hobby, not a competition. Never Squat With Yer Spurs On Quote Link to comment
+georgeandmary
I figure the situation just makes it a more challenging find. I decided on NO dice. george Remember: Half the people you meet are below average. Quote Link to comment
SNIFTER
Sorry but I wouldn't let it go through. Hounddog and I have had to draw the line on some of ours. Rules are rules and the pic with a GPS is necessary. Quote Link to comment
+Mopar
I haven't really bothered with the locationless caches yet, but when I saw this one had to do with one of my favorite artists, I had to go look. I was intoduced to Wyland's work in a sorta round about way. I have a friend in California who's mother is a friend of Wyland's mom. Went out there about 5 yrs ago to see my friend, and we went to Vegas for the weekend. She took me to his gallery there. AWESOME! Was hooked on the spot. Imagine my surprise when I found there was a wall back home in NJ, in the very town my family had a summer home while I was growing up! Been to that wall plenty of times since, guess I'll have to get my ugly mug in a pic with my GPS when I go back there again next month. Illegitimus non carborundum! Quote Link to comment
