Micro so others will bring small stuff to trade Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers. - Socrates

The dogs go with me at every opportunity. They sit out the caches in federal parks or if the terrain looks like a problem. Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers. - Socrates

Runaround was singing the praises of the Merrell Runaround and I have to agree. they are priced well and are great to walk in and almost as light as wearing slippers! The only drawback I've found is the longevity of the soles-8 months and they are about as thin as bedroom slippers. Would I buy another set? Only as soon as I can get to Albuquerque (the nearest REI outlet)! Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers. - Socrates

I've also found that not only is the GPSr more accurate than the speedo (verified by the officer who wrote the ticket), but the speed will vary quite a bit (3-4 mph) while speedo reading is the same speed. I would guess that this results from a fat needle and skinny marker lines... Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers. - Socrates

Would Geocaching be more enjoyable if...

I like a little inaccuracy-it leaves me believing that I have a little skill and that the machine is not the whole game. I know, I know-without the machine I got squat, but I still like the fantasy! You let your daughter talk you into SCUBA lessons because you saw a level 5 cache that said something about water... What's $1500 to get to a cache, anyway? Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers. - Socrates

I have logged a couple of caches in Colorado (40 miles away), but my furthest is near Las Cruces, which makes 400 miles. I helped set a cache near Guaymas, Son. (Mexico), which is 900 miles away! I'm torn between Gustaf #4 and Team Bhoica #2. They all look good, but these really caught my eye! Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers. - Socrates

Actually, the compass is nothing more than a backup pointer. When the GPS won't point (moving too slowly, too much tree cover, building, etc.) the compas isn't fooled and will still let you follow your track. Children today are tyrants. I love decon containers. They are watertight (mostly), durable, lightweight; the only problem is that they are a bit small... Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers. - Socrates

I like the idea of putting various grocery store cards into caches. It would really screw up their profiling and the junk mail makes great packing for packages, etc. after it is shredded. I guess I need to go sign up for some more cards.... Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers. - Socrates

Actually, you can do it as follows: which doesn't require a fixed tag. See Angel Peak Cache as an example of a regular image, which does tile the image and allows it to scroll with the text. This works pretty well and loads a bit faster. Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers. - Socrates

I like my MapSource Topo, however, while at a meeting this weekend, I saw the Delorme Topo and may have to spend the money! The Delorme has much better graphics and some extra features. I like decon containers for smaller caches. They are already cammo colored, very water resistant, approximately Play-Doh can sized, and just all around cool! My last batch came from Ranger Surplus and cost about $1.50 each. Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers. - Socrates

I also had the Garmin eTrex, which I liked pretty well (except for no base map). I upgraded to the eMap and have no plans to upgrade-at least for now. The eMap is pretty good under the trees (when I can find one in the desert to try it under), has the base maps, and with a memory upgrade will accept MapSource products. It is also relatively "battery thrifty" and is a handy size. Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers. - Socrates

Do you read cache hints before you hunt?

I am making a habit of reading the page before I cache-saves me a lot of missed steps! Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers. - Socrates -
I've been a member for a couple of years, but haven't many finds because the cache density in Farmington is a bit light. Anyway, love the "thrill of the chase" and would like to meet some "local" cachers! Children today are tyrants. Garmin V help - "Com1 Serial port Access Denied"
culpc replied to citrix_99301's topic in GPS technology and devices
Check to make sure that a PDA isn't "hogging" the port. My Palm will not share the port with MapSource (but will with EasyGPS-go figure). Anyway, disabling the Palm desktop eliminates the port hogging problem. Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers. - Socrates -
Should hiding caches away from home be instituted?
culpc replied to Alan2's topic in General geocaching topics
Common sense should prevail (I know-like trying to legislate morality...). I helped set a cache in Mexico that is 900+ miles from where I live, however, it has been hit once in the past 7 months. My brother will check on it in December, which should be adequate for such a high traffic cache! Children today are tyrants.
