Time limit on caches?

Recommended Posts

I went to check on two of my caches today in a State Park. The ranger that I usually talk with was off this weekend. I talked to the head ranger he new about all four caches in the park but he hasn't been to mime yet they are back out on the trail. The first cache has been there sense Sep. 2001. He ask how long was it going to stay. My answer was till it ever gave a problem Then if he let some of us know we would remove it. He has my card. He said no problem. the other cache in the park had given them a problem at frist but he said it was no problem now, its still there. he said the ones on the trail were ok some of the other ranger had check on them.

With new cachers and people coming from far away there is still a lot of cacher logging them.

I think he's trying to catch up with me.

Heck, I've been posting for what, just over a year now, and he's already more than half-way to catching up with me, that's for sure...LOL.

He reminds me of how I used to be - I'd argue a point into details, ad infinitum. I still can, but what's the point, unless it's just friendly banter.

The thing is, Woodster makes the same kind of mistakes I did/do. Good core idea, that can be worked thru, but runs down the tracks of details too much, or runs down the wrong details.

I've found this just irritates people, so I try not to do it.

Anywho, My opinion on time limits:

I think that maybe there should be a way to directly report to the Aprover AND maintainer of a cache if you could not find, and you think it was b/c it's gone. Maybe a radio button when filling in logs (as I have no finds, this may exist & I don't know it).

Notice this isn't a time limit, but rather a 'please check that I'm not just blind, but I really think I should have found it' gizmo. But I can also see where this would put a LOT of extra work on Approvers, tho not so much on maintainers.

In short, there is no perfect solution, which may be what Woodster is looking for. Much less a perfect blanket solution.

Man, I gotta find someone locally to talk to - I"m gonna drive y'all nuts! icon_wink.gif

Why should a cache have a expiration date, they already have a born on date. I also saw a mention of cachers checking the logs to see if a cache is worth doing, personally I like finding caches that others have looked for and could not find. Junk in a cache, no problem. I'll TNLN, and my kids like that junk. Also I like being able to cache on my time, not a time limit set by someone else.
