what are latitude and longitude minutes?

Probably better for the "Getting Started" Forum, but latitude and longitude can be broken out to degrees, minutes and seconds. Minutes is just a part of the latitude or longitude for a coordinate. Why do you ask?

depends on the format

45 21.456 The 45 is the degree and the rest are the minutes in that format.

Latitude and longitude are commonly used divisions of the globe. There are 360 divisions (or degrees) of each as you traverse around the globe. The North/South divisions are called Latitude and The East/West divisions are called longitude. Lat and Lon are both commonly divided into 60 divisions called minutes which are commonly further divided into 60 divisions known as seconds. So 60 sec = 1 min, 60 min = 1 degree.
