Here's hoping none of us ever need it, but...

"To commemorate the attacks of last Sept. 11, the National Safety Council (NSC) is offering its online "Basic First Aid & CPR" course free of charge between September 11th and 18th.

The course takes about 2 hours to complete and can be done at one's own pace. It features advanced graphics, interactive animations, realistic sound effects, video clips and a variety of exercises."

Check out www.nsc.org to take the course.

Sounds interesting!

A refresher sor some, first time for others, but a good idea, better than nothing at all.

THANKS for the heads-up.

Mike. KD9KC.

El Paso, Texas.

Seventeen minutes after her FIRST call for help, police officers arrived to find Ronyale White dead.

Prohibiting self defense is the ultimate crime. Police carry guns to protect themselves. What protects YOU ???

You might want to highlight the online part. It might make it easier for people that can't get to a class. This is something most of us have the time for. Spend two less hours on the forums.

As always, the above statements are just MHO.

CPR was created for near drownings. Forget TV. CPR is almost useless in the real world. But. If you *see* a person become pulseless and non breathing there is something you can do that will work. The Precordial Thump. One or two hard blows to the middle of the chest between the nipples with your fist, like a hammer. You MUST be sure it's a heart attack first or you might kill rather than save. This action will, in some cases, reset the heart back to a normal beat that pumps blood again. This was in the CPR protocall years ago but was removed due to the high number of mistakes. People were too freaked by events to check if Grandpa was choking, drunk or sleeping before they cracked his ribs, lacerated his liver and poped a lung with the Thump trying to fix his "heart attack".

If you're sure (no pulse, open airway, no breathing) use it. It works. Why not, he's dead already.

Sticks and stones may break my bones, but don't bet on it.
