Phillie
Hi, I'm a first timer to GPS. I plan to get a 76s after reading many of your postings. I've emailed Garmin with a few ?'s but some still remain unanswered so here goes. 1. The 76s has 24mgb of memory and will come preloaded with say America's Hwy. Can I write over this file or add to it? 2. With 24mgb of memory I was told that is the max that can be used so if I buy addtl flash cards they cannot exceed 24mgb. yes or no. 3. When I download from Garmin will the software list how many mgb it has? 4. If a 24mgb card only has 16mgb of data can I download 8mgb of another program and will it be kept seperated on the unit. 5. Along with the seperation ?, can you multiple programs on the unit as long as it does not exceed 24mgb.If so, how would they be listed for accessibility? Thank You all in advance... +wickedsprint
The 76 does not have cards dude...you basically have 24 mbs free to add mapsource maps only, all of the other goodies, waypoints and tracklogs have nothing to do with the 24 mb storage. Quote Link to comment
+Renegade Knight
Your Mapsource software will track how many MB of data you are going to download into the GPS. You can adjust the level of detail in the maps to allow for more area or more detail. 24 mb will get 2/3 of Idaho in high detail. Quote Link to comment
+wickedsprint
are you sure about that, I cannot find where I can change the detail to fit more maps into mine... Quote Link to comment
+apersson850
The level of detail setting affects the appearance of the maps on the PC screen only. There is a similar setting in the GPS, but the maps are the same, with all detail included all the time. Anders Quote Link to comment
+freezejeans
I just received my 76S and while I don't have Mapsource yet, I have to say it's a great unit so far and highly recommended "You can freeze gum off of jeans?!" Quote Link to comment
+Upstate NY Geocacher
I recently bought the GPSMAP76s and I love it. Already had the CD Mapsourse from my Street Pilot. Very acurate readings and easy to use Just got in to Geocaching in June and have found 7 casches so far, with a 5 star rating on one of them. Look around, I got mine for $308 + $10 shipping.
