They improved the parachuting man icon...

Note: This upgrade requires reset of the GPSr if you're running version 2.29b or 2.29c.

From the Garmin download site...

This software is pre-released software for eTrex Vista as of 9/23/02 and includes the changes listed below since version 2.29c. Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.

Note: Due to changes in Jumpmaster, those currently using a previous 2.29 beta version (2.29b or 2.29c) should clear user memory. This can be done by pressing and holding PAGE+ENTER (CLICK STICK)+PWR when powering the unit. A dialog box will appear verifying your intent to clear memory. This will clear waypoints, tracks, and routes.

Please note: This software is for the eTrex Vista only and cannot be downloaded to any other product. Reverting back to previous released versions will clear user memory. Users are strongly urged to backup any user data they wish to save. Foreign language support for non-translated items is currently in progress and will be added to future releases. To report errors in current translations, please send mail to TranslationErrors@garmin.com. No technical support will be provided for this Beta software. We do encourage you to send comments and error reports to EtrexVistaBeta@garmin.com

To view the software version, complete the following steps:

Power up your GPS unit.

From any page, use the click stick to activate the page menu at the top right-hand corner of the display. Press ENTER on the click stick.

Scroll down to the Main Menu and press ENTER.

Select SETUP and press ENTER.

Select SYSTEM and press ENTER.

Select the Menu option in the top right-hand corner of the display and press ENTER.

Select SOFTWARE VERSION and press ENTER. Your Software Version will then be displayed.

He sure is, Alan.

I'm really impressed that project management at Garmin did give priority to fixing the Jumpmaster icon, so that he really looks cute when he jumps, but postponed getting rid of the time zone bug, which only causes the time, date and elevation log to go awry. Oh yes, yesterday it seemed to crash the unit completely, by turning it off as soon as I tried to use it with GPS off.

If it's true that people who do only what they consider fun live longer, then these guys at Garmin will be here long after the rest of us are gone... icon_rolleyes.gif
