Snipe33
I'm going to purchase a GPS but I can't decide between the two I've narrowed it down to. I've found both at Amazon for $119 (one requires a $30 rebate) and free shipping. Garmin Geko 201 or the Magellan Sportrak Which??? Snipe33 Quote Link to comment
+Tahoe Skier5000
Garmin nuts will tell you Garmin Magellan nuts will tell you Magellan. I'm a Geko. ----------------------------------------------------------- Garmin V Using Opera 7.1 Quote Link to comment
+Rubberhead
I'm a Garmin guy since 1995 so I would say the Geko. However, I don't mean to put you back to ground zero, but the Legend is only $50 more. Since the Legend comes with the computer interface cable which normally runs at least $20, the Legend is really only $30 more. For $30 you get mapping, high-resolutions 4-level display, better battery life (AA versus AAA) and 8 MB of memory. Savings on batteries will pay back the $30 in the first year or so. Go with the Legend - It's the best value in a GPSr available today. Ducks - Flying, great tasting, geocaches of meat Quote Link to comment
+GeckoGeek
I have the Geko 201 and enjoy it. It's very small and fits nicely into my pocket. You can get the computer cable for $8 + $5 S/H from GPSGeek. But all those features for $50 more could be quite tempting....... Do get rechargeable batteries. Quote Link to comment

Snipe33
Thanks to everyone that replied. I ended up taking Rubberhead's advice and got the Legend. Just picked it up today from CircuitCity. This thing is sweet! Can't wait to get out this weekend and try her out! Snipe33 Quote Link to comment
+New England n00b
Good choice, except for the retailer I like my Legend a lot, even though I've only been in the woods with it a few times... --------------------- Don't hurt me. I'm new here. Quote Link to comment
ChiefPig
Good choice I have a Legend too...although the current price of the Magellan ST Pro are pretty good as well. But it is hard to beat the size of the Legend. Quote Link to comment
+Deckyon
I know you already bought one, but I have to put my plug out for the Magellan Meridian Platinum. I know it is a "bit" more, but I love he ability to throw in new SD cards and carry tons of detailed maps. As a matter of fact, I just got a second 128mb card to add on some other areas of the country I frequent a lot. My current card has all of Indiana and Kentucky, in both Topo and Streets/Dest. 62 MB each region. It also has a working compass that will show direction even when you are not moving.... --- Brad Buskey http://www.deckyon.com N38:17.281, W85:32.998 deckyon@NOSPAM.msn.com Magellan Meridian Platinum Quote Link to comment
