Sorry this is last minute but I just found this out myself.... One of our CITO event organizers called up a local McDonalds restaurant because he heard that Mcdonalds helps support community service projects. I guess the info was true because they're giving us free use of a cooler and orange drink concentrate for our event. So if you need cold beverages for your volunteers try giving the local Mcdonalds a call!

I live in northern Illinois 75 miles west of Chicago. When we went to the Forest Preserve HQ that day to get garbage bags they were doing a controlled burn in that FP too. That was a huge one and you could hear the fire crackling quite a distance away. There only seemed to be one guy doing the burn at the CITO site but he had little fires started all over the place. You could see charred beer cans, etc in the areas he had hit.

Going to WI on Saturday for family stuff and was searching out caches when I saw this one.... "Took the Batman tin and $5 subway certificate, left Laa Laa TB and an Eye ball. Thanks from all of us." Yeah, that's a real even trade.

Well, the park stewards from the forest preserve we're doing our CITO event in accidentally 'sabotaged' our event. We were there today doing a little recon so we could plan pick-up areas.....lo and behold they're doing a controlled burn!!!!!!!! LOL Looks like all the trash went up in the burn too. We're going to have to expand our efforts and we plan on picking up trash along the bike path the runs alongside the forest preserve and through parts of it.

Awwwww your banner is bigger than ours Gee, now I have banner envy! Ours is 10" high and 8' long.....it's going to be mounted on the sides of the maintenance pick-up truck that the college is letting us borrow for the CITO event.

LOL...I do that with the kids toys too...they have too much stuff and I usually recycle their good stuff into caches that kids frequent around here.

UnderArmour makes a line of clothing to help you out in the different seasons. I wear a HeatGear t-shift under my bullet proof vest in the summer and it keeps me in a tolerable temperature range. The company also sells ColdGear. I don't have any cold gear but if it works as well as their other product then I'd highly recommend it. They're expensive though. A ColdGear t-shirt will set you back around $34 I purchase my UnderArmour clothing at Dicks Sporting Goods.

I'm the advisor for the RVC Geocachers and the club has really taken off. The college students love going out and geocaching. We plan on incorporating other activities into our geocaching like camping and canoeing. We'd also like to do community events like geocaching with Boy Scout groups, CITO events, and breakfast events. Anyone else have any ideas we could do for activities? Also need ideas for equipment... We're leaning towards purchasing Rhinos for the club since it will be good to have the FRS/GMRS radioes for safety reasons.

Oooooooh! I hate those. Crossed one a week ago that had about 50 crossties and that wasn't much fun...especially since there was a road below it about 20' down. BTW that one of yours looks pretty high up...is it? Snipe33

You could email the lady at NGS that handles destroyed bench marks. I found a benchmark that had the entire cement base dug out and moved to another location nearby. That one is being removed from the national registry. Check the information page at geocaching.com about reporting destroyed benchmarks. It's pretty helpful. Snipe33

Anyone still hitting these even though it's private property? They seem to be some of the oldest BM's out there. Come on, admit it....LOL Snipe33

I also agree with everything Jeff stated. People try to pass off all manner of things as "offical identification"....nothing is going to satisfy me other than a driver's license or military i.d. Just be honest and explain what you're doing. That will work with most law enforcement officers. Snipe33

I started geocaching about 2 months ago and I think I prefer searching for benchmarks. (Well, the disk benchmarks anyways) The benchmarks are definately alot more challenging since the coords are never accurate and you always end up using the descriptions. Sure finding a container of junky toys is fun....but I find it more rewarding to find something that was placed in 1920 that hasn't been logged by any other civilians Snipe33

I've been doing this with step 1 baby food jars (the smaller ones). We go through a ton of them and the ones I don't recycle I turn into CITO bag holders. I know they're glass but they're pretty hard to break...I've dropped them many times in the house. Snipe33
