+NWMOhunter Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 I wouldn't mind picking up a Palm computer for Geocaching. Right now, this would be the sole use for the Palm top. Can someone give some ideas on which models or brands to look for? What should I look for as far as specs on a unit? I've seen the Palm IIIxe go on eBay for a decent price. Since this will be the sole use, I'd like to keep the cost to around $50 or $75. The main thing I'm looking for is to be able to load copies of the cache page into the PDA so I can use them while out in the field and see what is written about the cache. How about some input? How do you use your Palm top or PDA for caching? What works, what doesn't? I'd appreciate any input someone can provide! Quote
+Faderaven Posted February 23, 2003 Posted February 23, 2003 thread I just inflicted on everyone. Palm aps Look for the links to Plucker and GPX2HTML they will be of more use to you as a Palm user. Let my heart be still a moment and this mystery explore Quote
kg4mrv Posted February 24, 2003 Posted February 24, 2003 One downside to using a pda for caching is that PDAs are far less water resistant. They're not made to be. Quote
+Brian - Team A.I. Posted February 24, 2003 Posted February 24, 2003 I've been using my IIIxe for months and I'm in love with it as far as geocaching is concerned. Earlier, I was printing 40+ pages/week of cache logs, and it goes into a small <200kb .pdb file for use in something like PalmReader. What a wonderful resource for geocaching. Not only does it shrink the package of materials, but it saves on paper/ink costs. Brian Team A.I. Quote
+evergreenhiker! Posted February 25, 2003 Posted February 25, 2003 Become a charter member...you get access to the pocket queries whcih can be downloaded to your computer and ultimately sychronized to your pda. I use Plucker and GPX Spinner. If you do a search, you'll see posts regarding them. It really DOES make caching easier...I use to print reems adn reems of paper and ate up a lot of ink. Ink is expensive! Quote
