KozAZ
I've serched the forums with no luck. I could have sworn I saw a pwr button guard upgrade. Or was it on different Meridian GPSr Model? Could anybody clarify this for me? Thanks, Ryan Quote Link to comment
+Rusty O Junk
If you have version 4.02 it’s at menu>setup>power key and you can turn it on and off there. It takes a second key press to turn the gps off and you must press and hold the power button to turn it on. Quote Link to comment
BotKeeper
I am having troubles with my Platinum with power. I've set the power-guard. It works because it asks for a confirmation for power-off. However, my unit still spontaneously powers off. Basicly, I power on the unit and drop it in my jacket pocket. About 20% of the times I remove the unit, it is either visably off (display blank) or shuts down (there is something on the display, but it immediately goes blank). Anyone have idea? KozAZ
Actually what I saw was a plastic guard that surrounded the "PWR" button. I guess I should call Meridian and see if I can order it as a seperate part and install in on mine. That is if it exists ? Quote Link to comment
dtrayers
Here a link to a photo. The guard is home made. Search the Yahoo! group for the thread. It was sometime last summer. Quote Link to comment

+Jamie Z
I'm curious to see the power-button guard... but when I click on the link, I get a message saying that I can't view the photo. Anyone have a local image they can post? In any case, I've been satisfied (so far) with the power button feature of 4.02... except they made it even more tedious to turn it on. I guess I can live with that. Jamie Quote Link to comment

+Stunod
Here's the pic Jamie, but I suggest you join the group...there is a lot of useful info there. EDIT...oops geospotter beat me to it!! But I'll add the message from the original post: quote:Hi all. I have also had this problem with mine so I crafted a solution this evening.. I used some magentic tape (flexible magnet with sticky back for fridge magnets and the like) and carefully dremel'd and sanded it to fit the shape of the power button. The piece of magnet is so small and weak that it has no effect on the compass (I have the Platinum). If you are paranoid about this then there a probably a multitude of other things you can use.. but this worked great for me. Before attaching the piece to the GPS I made multiple readings to compare it with my 'real' compass and all readings were right on. Then again, if you have the Gold or base unit none of this will matter. The material is black with a 'matte' texture so it matches the buttons on the meridian really well. The adhesive was not strong enough to attach to the GPSR so I used some Elmer's clear household cement to do the job. This glue sticks really well to the magnet and to the GPSR. Note that this is a somewhat permanent solution since the glue will likely leave a slight mark on the GPS surface. I took some pictures with my web cam and uploaded them to the photos section on the site. http://photos.groups.yahoo.com/group/magellan_meridian/lst?&.dir=/Power+Butt on+Guard The top of the guard sits a tiny bit below the top of the button. The button is still easy to push with a thumb or finger but is about impossible to get pushed when in a pocket. I have tried pushing the GPS against a variety of surfaces (my leg, the carpet, inside of pocket etc.) and the button does not get pushed. Geospotter, thanks for the pics. Quite a professional looking job for being homemade. Stunod, as a matter of fact, I just joined the group a couple hours ago. I must say, the forum list is not user-friendly at all... or maybe I'm not doing it right. I found it really hard to read messages like I do on this board. Jamie Quote Link to comment
+Cachetrotters
a rubber O-ring would fit the bill, if you had no Dremel tool available. They come in various thicknesses and sizes and can be glued down as well as anything, I reckon. If it does get knocked off, you wouldn't have to Dremel out another one. Just stick another O-ring on. don Quote Link to comment
dr.bob
I saw that problem . . . I simply got out my pocketknife and cut the power button flush wish the face. It works fine now. Quote Link to comment
+Stunod
Jamie - that message board is the worst format I've ever run across, but it does have some good info if you are willing to wade thru the garbage to get to it. +embra
I elected to receive the postings as email. The web interface drove me buggy. I did digests version for a while, but I had to do major scrollings to get through each one. Individual emails seem to be the easiest way for me to get through, although it's like drinking from a fire hose...it's a busy board. There are some gems of tweaks, hacks, and general information. Well worth the effort for meridian owners. Don't get even - get odd Quote Link to comment
