+roadmedic Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 I picked up a travel bug today! When I tried to log the code, it told me it was non-existent. Has the owner deactivated it? Quote
+GeoCharmer81 Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 My first suggestion is to be sure the bug has 'trackable on geocaching.com' on it. If not, it isn't trackable on the site. Sometimes the alpha-numeric code has characters that can be mistaken for another... mostly 0 (zero) and O (letter) and 1(one) and L (letter). You may try different combinations to see if that is what's going on. Good luck, hope this helps 1 Quote
+cerberus1 Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Agree with GeoCharmer81, stamping and wear sometimes make the trackable code difficult to read. We had one once where a 5 looked like an S... You've picked up a few trackables before, so should be aware of what to look for. Could it be an unactivated trackable? We leave unactivated geocoins in caches once in a while. A sort of incentive to get people to walk. Quote
Darwin473 Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 You could also take a photo of the code and send it to an active member on here (such as cerberus1) for a second opinion on what the code might be. Just don't post it publicly. If you haven't logged it yet, it may still be showing in the inventory of the cache you picked it up from, so you could try sharing the reference number or url for the TB here and somebody who has previously logged it may recognise it. 1 Quote
+GeoCharmer81 Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 roadmedic, I did a little stalking on your profile and there are no trackables listed as being in the caches you found today. There is a possibility that the bug you found isn't trackable. Or, it wasn't logged into the cache. You may post photos of both sides of the bug with the code covered in this thread and maybe someone would have info on the bug for you. 1 Quote
