+Troop97siteseekers
Here is a horror story for anyone who owns caches and enjoys trackables. We own and operate a very large trackable hotel and supply/repair depot. The Hotel is on private property and is open to only premium members which makes this even weirder....We had an individual visit the hotel a short time ago, he had a bag, he dumped the bin of trackables into the bag, a total of 28, then grabed a handful and placed a few back (5) of them. So he took 23 travel bugs...but the what he did next was even more perplexing....he dumped a container of mixed items into the "Check in" bin. This individual did not sign the logbook even though he had to physically move it to take the bugs. This individual did not log any of the trackables he took even though the cache page pretty much begs that you do so. OK, now for what he left....included in the stuff he dumped which was mostly garbage, were 9 travel bugs in various conditions from like new to just paper tags with tracking info. All of the bugs/trackable stuff he left is from bugs that have been reported missing from accross the United States, including, California, Arizona Minnesota, Nebraska, North Dakota, Tennesee, Florida, and Wisconsin. None of these bugs were ever logged as taken from their caches, and they have been missing anywhere from March 2018 all the way to just last October? Again ...remember this had to be a premium member because he had coordinates and lock combination from cache page, we have multiple security shots of both the individual and his vehicle...but cmon seriously what can you do....Does anyone have any thoughts on this or have they encountered this? Its's like he was a "Serial bug thief" or something. We feel bad 23 bugs belonging to various people just vanished, we can only hope that the ones he took show up somewhere eventually like the ones he dumped here....Such an odd thing..... 1 Quote Link to comment
+cerberus1
A basic member can get a temp-PM by mailing Groundspeak. It's good for a week. If I was given a temp-PM, rather than cache, I'd enter every cache higher-than 2 and all PMO hides too, into a GPSr. We've found that "hotels" are often spots that hoarders watch. We won't place trackables in "hotels" because of that. As organized as this thing is, though annoying to some, it's getting a lot of notice I'd bet. But it isn't really a surprise... Most hoarders we're aware of were PM at the time. Hoarder or ebay seller is the question... - You did say, "Please help yourself to anything you might need..." 1 Quote Link to comment
+Jayeffel
I am afraid there is not much you can do, I guess go through the TBs you have and grab them if needed and continue on with putting them in caches. If he has a Premium account he may be watching to see what advice his given. Maybe he really has no clue what is to be done properly. Do you have a record of the TBs you placed? It would be a long process but make a log entry on each TB page, or contacting the TB over may accomplish something. Too bad these things happen Edited May 23, 2022 by Jayeffel grammar Quote Link to comment
+Troop97siteseekers
Yeah fortunately like we said he logged nothing so the cache page lists all the bugs that should be there so we know exactly what he took and who owned them. Screenshot the list and printed, we added all the bugs to our "Watch list" that way we can see if anything happens with them, like he dumps them in a cache somewhere. Maybe just wait a month and if nothing pops up we will contact owners and inform them bugs are missing.....seriously though..what a dick move... 1 Quote Link to comment
