juanbob
Going to Cairns next week for vacation. Just wondering how much gasoline costs in Australia so we can plan on how much driving we want to do for caching/recreation. We will be renting a 4 wheel drive - probably with poor gas milage, so it could be a vacation budget breaker. Thanks! Juanbob Quote Link to comment
wot
Well i'm from the other side of the Country and out Unleaded Fuel prices is around 92.4c/L Check out FuelWatch WA For more information i'm unsure if the other States have a simular Online Service Quote Link to comment
Team Piggy
I travel reguarly in one of those "so-called" guzzler 4wd's, and yes fuel is expensive when you get out bush. Cairns is fairly well in what I class as township side of things,So should be about mid $0.80 Ltr pricing. It's when you get right out of town you can be paying upwards of $1.40 a litre for Unleaded/diesel. Lp Gas runs around $0.80 in the rural areas. (But I mean really rural ! like 600 kms out of cairns !). Have a look at : National Fuel Prices for those hungry 4wd's. Try to get up to Kuranda & the Atherton Tablelands if you get a chance, about 120 kms to Atherton from Cairns, but well worth it. Or even better up to Daintree, and take one of the Croc Cruises up the Daintree river, really great scenery. Atherton and the surrounding areas, Milly', ravenshoe, etc (Near where Australian Survivor was filmed) should all be about the same price as Cairns. Hope this helps. Team Piggy. Quote Link to comment
juanbob
With all the conversions made, all the math done, all the calculations verified - got the gas price thing figured out. Thanks for the information! Prices are a little higher than we are used to, but not too bad. Looks like we will have some 4 wheel drive fun in Queensland next week. Can't wait to get some tropical air as I sit here and watch it snow outside. Juanbob Quote Link to comment
Team Piggy
Guess, what ! Fuel just went up here in SA ! up to 12 cents a litre hike ! Keep a close eye on the fuel price page, seems everyone is worried about a possible war with Iraq. And thats good enough reason for Fuel conglomerates to make a few extra squillion. Have a great trip. Team Piggy. Quote Link to comment
juanbob
We had a great time in Queensland! Everyone was so nice, weather was great, wonderful time. We stayed mostly in the tablelands and north, but did pop down to Magnetic Island for a bit. Gas prices while we were there (Jan 13 - Jan 27) were pretty steady at 82.9/liter in the larger towns up to 99.9/liter out in the boonies. Prices did seem to be trending up at the end of the vacation. And...it finally started raining while the last 2 days we were there. A little break in the drought finally.
