I'm wanting to place a geocache (with Permission from the curator) in the Wellton Arizona Pioneer Museum. 10402 Fresno St, Wellton, AZ 85356  The Museum is only open on the weekends  1 to 3 and only during the Winter (November thru March) months.

Thank you
Lynn T

The restricted opening days might be problematic. The Guidelines say:

I recall a while back a reviewer saying that a cache that's only accessible at certain times of the day, such as tidal access, is okay, but one that's only accessible on certain days is not. Best to send an email to your reviewer to see what their take on it is.

AT the museum, and IN the museum are two different things!  If it is inside the museum, then it likely won't be allowed due to the restricted hours of operation.  BUT, you can place it on the grounds outside the museum making it available year round, and that would work.  We know of one that has outside displays available all the time, but the museum itself is only uopen inthe summertime.  The cache is part of one of the outside displays, very well done! Perhaps work with the curator to come up with something outside, on the grounds or near the museum, bringing attention to the museum but not needing the cacher to go inside - it needs to be accessible most of the time.  This could be a fun cache to create and find!

Also, read up on, and maybe ask your Reviewer about the restrictions against caches being "PRO-" anything. You can't, for example, advertise the museum, while you CAN call attention to a feature outside.

The difference is not having your cache be an advertisement, an enticement or an advocate for an 'agenda', and even a museum could be considered to have an agenda. It's an easy concept to understand when you're placing your cache at a business; you can't say "Stop in here and eat", but it's less-clear in your case.

Save yourself some angst later on and open a discussion with your Reviewer early and explain what you want to do. He or she or whatever will help guide you to an acceptable cache, within the guidelines.

Good luck! Let us know in this thread how it goes.

And this is one of the reasons I've lost interest in geocaching. Too many dad blasted guidelines that, imo, hamper the hobby. For me, a cache with limited accessibility would add a tiny bit of a challenge and make it a more enticing and memorable cache. It would be a cache that, like every other cache out there, could be ignored if someone thought it was too difficult for them to get.

In this case, what would be better,,, having a cache with limited availability or having no cache at all? :(
