I can confirm this. And in FF, it's sufficient to type < , followed by a character, and everything after the < is lost.

 

Anyway ... I thought that properly escaping any HTML markup characters in user input before outputting said input as text on a web page is basic web developer knowledge. Seems that I was wrong.
