Need a cache to Sacramento to leave a Bug

Hi -

Last weekend we found a Travel Bug. It is a small wooden duck - about 5"x3"x3". The man who owns it wants it to get to his grandchildren in the Sacramento area. They don't know it is coming and he is hoping it will get them hooked on Geocaching. It has been traveling for over a year.

We are driving up north on the 23rd and will be going thru the area, along I5. I need a good cache that is easy (1/1), big enough to take the duck and close to the interstate. We will be towing a small trailer, so we also need to find a place that we can park the thing without much problem. I would like it to be less than an hour from the city. The closer the better.

Thanks for any ideas!

Laura

I found This cache after doing a little search of the area. I used to live in Sacramento, and this is an easy area to get off and back on to the highway. I have not found this cache, but the placer says on the cache page that it is a good cache for Travel bugs. I noticed that one of the original items was a puzzle, which the box is bigger than the size of bug your wanting to place.

Hope this works for you. icon_biggrin.gif

My wife says put a coordinate on it and I'll find it.

Putt's right on this cache. Easy to get on and off the freeway. Maybe you should put a note on the TB if you drop it here. Otherwise it may end up taking a trip far away!

The airport one can be a crowded area. I've gone there twice to find it and both times there were police officers sitting in their cars facing the cache site. I decided to abandon both attempts.

The Need a Lift cache location can be disconcerting (you'll understand when you get there) but most muggles who might see you know about the cache.

I would suggest you bring along the info for both of the caches, and try them in order. That way if one doesn't work out, you can try the other one.

And like GeoSharks said, put a note with the bug so someone else doesn't move him away again.

How about a link to the bug? I'd like to watch the outcome.

Here is a link to the TB in question...

It is the Geo-Quaker.

I realize that it will probably be the Airport one, or not. The backup suggestion will have us back tracking if the Airport one doesnt work out. We have 500 miles to drive that day, and can't dedicate too much time on this. I am going to find a backup north of the city.

I also have a friend who lives in the area. I am trying to see if we can spend an hour with her on our way up. If so, I will give it over to them - the are also Geocachers, and will be able to place it in a nicer place than I can.

And yes, we had already figured out that the cache will need a note.

Thanks again!

Me, again!

I have started to think the airport cache isnt going to work. It seems there might be police watching the area, and I dont want to be arrested as a terrorist. Also, I am traveling up next Friday, which is the Friday before a holiday. I expect it will be crowded.

Looking around the area, I have found 2 possible caches. Any comments?

If you try the first one, make sure you go during business hours. It's definitely closed nights and I'm not so sure about Saturday. The second one would be great if your bug is on the smaller side. You could also try one of mine, although it's also a little small...

This one's a little bigger...
