+cerberus1 Posted April 23, 2020 Posted April 23, 2020 In the Glossary of Terms, under "Tracking Number" it says, "A unique number associated with a Travel Bug or trackable. Tracking numbers are used as proof that a geocacher physically came in contact with an item. Tracking numbers also double as a way for users to locate the personal web page for a Travel Bug. More about Travel Bugs and trackables." It's a Tracking code that's proof that a geocacher came in contact with a trackable. That's explained in the "Travel Bugs and Trackables" link that's included, under 1.6, Tracking Code and Reference Number. 1 Quote

The interchangeable terms make it tough to refer to online information, having to explain that it's [this], also called [that]. And, they're collectible. Quote
+WearyTraveler Posted May 12, 2020 Posted May 12, 2020 That’s all well and good. However, on the “proof that a catcher came in contact,” there’s a (Probably several) Facebook group where users post pictures of trackables, along with their codes / numbers. People are “discovering” trackables without ever touching them. 1 Quote

There's a lot of folks aware of that though, and they are trying to fix it. I Discover trackables I haven't "touched" once in a while. Completely different than you're suggesting... Many TOs are happy that someone is looking out for them. Quote
