+niksagkram
Just wondering why some people get new cache notifications way faster then others? In my area it seems to be the same people, sometimes even posting a find before it is published on the app. Could it be a difference in the apps, Cachly vs. Geocache.com app for instance? thanks, Mark Quote Link to comment
+Viajero Perdido
Maybe some cachers just back into their parking spots, and leave the engine running. I'm only half-kidding. Text messages and emails to a phone should be immediate. Emails to a PC, a few seconds or minutes slower, and less attention-getting. Apps? Dunno if they use "push messages", or polling. Push messages are complicated to implement, and we know Groundspeak doesn't officially recognize the FTF game, so likely wouldn't put any resources into supporting it... +CAVinoGal
I think you can only set new cache notifications from the website, geocaching.com, and that sends you an email when a new cache is published. You need to set a separate notification for each cache type if you want to know when traditionals, multis, puzzles, events, etc get published. If you have your email notifications sent to your email, and you get your email on the phone, it could be a function of how often your phone's email app "polls" for new mail - is it every 2 hours? Every 10 minutes? Do other apps have notification options for new caches? I've only used the official app. 1 Quote Link to comment

I checked my email settings on my phone and the "fetch" was set to "hourly" I changed it to "automatic", so maybe this will make a difference. Thanks 1 Quote Link to comment

I guess they rig up some sort of hook with the cell network to accomplish this. (I've been looking for a good book that explains technical innards such as this, BTW.) When I (on the computer) post a log to a cache I'm watching, the phone goes bzzz the very instant I hit the Enter key. That's too fast to be polling.
