Add another cache to this series: https://www.sidetrackedseries.info/

I think NZ only has two so far.

I have two in this series:

https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC7HMHC_sidetracked-canberra

https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC7K10Z_sidetracked-queanbeyan

Most are traditional caches, but there are multicaches (it's a way to add a cache when the station already has a cache), puzzles and I know of a Wherigo, although not fond of the later as I use a GPS and I can't do wherigos with it. Whatever type of cache you choose, find many of that type first.

There is now another example for you to look at in Canberra: REALLY SideTracked - Canberra -GC8YP2D.

I have seen multicache examples of these caches, but this example of multicache is a first for me. I am still waiting for someone from Singapore to reply :drama:.

https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC8YP2D_really-sidetracked-canberra

'Really' is used when the station is now closed. There is also Tram SideTracked (an opportunity there in Canberra), and also Mini Sidetracked, for miniature railways. There is a miniature railway off the closed part of Jerrabomberra Av, Symonston, if you are interested and if there's room for a cache. Otherwise locally, as the operating stations, Canberra, Queanbeyan, Bungendore, Tarago, Goulburn, Marulan, Yass are taken by Decrypter, Greyhams, Gliss and myself, there's really only closed stations left. On the old Cooma line for instance. You might be fighting there for room with Tankengine :D. That's where multicaches come in handy.

You go to this site: https://www.sidetrackedseries.info/

There you will find information and standard bits to copy and paste into your Geocache Description about SideTracked caches, when setting up your cache. It's good to include a photograph and information about the station. I always need to go to this site when setting up a cache, and read about it again. If it's set up correctly, when people log a cache their number of SideTracked cache finds goes up, and there is a link which can be displayed on your Public Profile (you can see an example on my profile) to show number of SideTracked finds. I have found 68, but one cache find is not linked correctly, and someone in SA removed their cache from the SideTracked series (no idea why ), so only 66 shows. Most of these caches can be found in the UK, where I would guess there might be thousands. Here is the international list of caches:

https://www.sidetrackedseries.info/statistics/statslist.php

I now notice there is a new one in Sydney.

https://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC8ZGXH_sidetracked-normanhurst

I am itching to go find the new ones in Sydney and enjoy travelling on the train there to do so, but waiting until they get the Covid situation under control. Adding that new one to my to-find list.

I'm not sure what more information I can give you, but if there are any more questions, please ask. It would be great to have more caches in this series to find. I suggested recently to someone in the Berrima area, that they have nice stations and it would be good to continue the series past Marulan, all the way to Sydney. There is one at Picton now.

I put my reply here, so others can read about SideTracked Stations too.

There is also Tram SideTracked (an opportunity there in Canberra). Can you give me an idea of the area (cords)?

It's the new light rail from Civic to Gungahlin. It would make a nice picture to include. I considered it, but I am MORE than happy for someone else to place this. I was planning to put the cache near a station, so someone, even a tourist, could catch the light rail/tram to find it.

Other ideas. You would need to find out about the history here:

There used to be a rail-line behind the Tech college on Constitution Avenue in Reid going to Civic. The corridor of trees marks the way. The old station though (it needs to be a station) I think might be somewhere near or at where the Mall in Civic is now. Awkward, but it could be a multicache. Answers to be found at the old station site (mall?), but the cache placed elsewhere.  Walking distance is good for those without transport of their own, such a visitors. There is already a cache at the mall, which might block another actually there.

There is the remains of a line behind the Power House in Kingston. Need to check what station there was.

All Saints Church in Ainslie, does have several caches , but no Really SideTracked. It's the old Mortuary Station (somehow I think this will appeal to you ;)) that was brought from Rookwood in Sydney. Rookwood has four Really SideTracked Stations. So in a sense another following on from that. Rookwood caches:

GC7YCX0

GC8965T

GC8965Z

Maybe it could even be called REALLY SideTracked - Cemetery Station No5 Rookwood, following on from the four in Rookwood (and a reference to those in Rookwood), but I would check with the CO of those first, in case they are planning more caches.

I look forward to finding your Sidetracked caches.
