OSM Option Missing from Geocaching Map Layers

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

The Geocaching map does not have an OSM option in the layers option. Is there a way to get that option? A friend has OSM in his layers option. The options I have are Geocaching, Google Road Map, and Google Satellite. I'd like to see what he is looking at. I am using my computers Geocaching Web site with Windows 10.

On the left side toolbar, click on Set Map Preferences. Change it from Google to Leaflet.

You must be looking at the "search map", which has this unfortunate limitation.

The "browse map" (https://coord.info/map) still has all the options as usual.  At least right now, that's what I'm seeing.  Whew, don't scare me like that.

That seems to work. I am wondering if there is another way to get to the Set Map Preferences and how did you find out about the "Browse Map".

Hope I'm not being too obtrusive.

Thank you again for the help

"Browse map" and "search map" are just terms we (forum people) have coined, and which I hope Groundspeak makes an effort to clarify.  They're distinctly different map engines with different purposes.

At one point, I remember they said there were no plans to remove the browse map functionality, so hopefully the OSM options will remain there indefinitely.

So you know, the "Geocaching" map (or "Trails" if you're using an oddly inconsistent app) is based on OSM.  It just doesn't show everything you might consider useful, such as parking, access=no, etc.  Suggestions have been made...

The only way I can get to the "set map preferences" is by that link. Is that link someplace else and easier to get to?

At the top of every page of the website is a green bar with options for Play, Community and Shop. Click on Play, and from the dropdown list, click on View Map to go to the browse map.

Sorry for the half-baked instructions. I have that map bookmarked, and don't really know of any other one.
