+TheTiger11
I would like to buy a handheld GPS but I am not sure what is the best for geocaching and is not too expensive. Any recommendations? Quote Link to comment
+Atlas Cached
While any GPS can perform basic geocaching operations, the 'best' in my opinion is currently the Oregon 7x0 series, as it is GCLive enabled and can download current geocache data in real time, which saves a lot of prep time you have with any other GPSr. Other than that, each unit will have more or less options depending on price, and you just have to determine which options are important for you. How soon do you have to choose? Garmin is past-due to release something new in the near future. Edited August 4, 2018 by Atlas Cached Quote Link to comment
+Viajero Perdido
"Best" + "not too expensive" == a phone + a good app It's been discussed, if you'd like to browse the older threads. Quote Link to comment
+stefanwilkens
While remaining in the realm of "not too expensive", the Garmin eTrex series is probably your best bet. 20x can be had for around $150 on amazon. Good visibillity in sunlight, SD card expansion slot... Get a screen protector for it though! Make sure to get the 20x or 30x version though, the normal 20 / 30 versions don't have the better screens that the 20x and 30x come with. The use of a GPSr unit depends on where you cache, I have found. If you are mostly doing quick urban / city caches, phones are usually fine. If you do more serious / time consuming caches, a dedicated GPSr with better reception is forested areas will give you better results. Edited August 10, 2018 by stefanwilkens Quote Link to comment
