+TheCottles
Hi, we're still getting to grips with caching and today saw a Travel bug! This was in the form of a sticker/magnet on the back of a car. We got the track number and logged as seen online. My question is, could we have taken this and attached to our car or is it just to be logged? Thing is I cant see it going far if it just stays on that car? but online it said not collectable?? what does that mean? Thanks in advance L x Quote Link to comment

Thanks in advance L x noncollectible means it has to keep moving from cache to cache or cacher to cacher. I'm not sure about taking it from someone's car without their knowledge though. They could be transporting it to the next cache in a fun way. What is the bugs goal? Edited April 28, 2016 by sburbplayer Quote Link to comment
+TheCottles
Its called 'Magnetic TB' and goal says 'Find me stuck to something made of steel'.... Perhaps its just for people to see and log, rather than move around do you think?? The only person that's taken it to different places is the owner, but it has travelled all over the country. I just didn't want to upset any cachers and do the wrong thing! Quote Link to comment

Yeah it sound like it is supposed to stay stuck to the car, so other catchers can find it and log it, but the owner keeps it and "dips" it into caches around the country to log miles on it. In short: you did the right thing by leaving it there. Quote Link to comment
+TheCottles
If its put in a cache though, wont someone take it like a regular travel bug??.... Phew, weve got a lot of caching etiquette to learn! Quote Link to comment
+noncentric
Trackables that are attached to cars should not be taken by other cachers. Other cachers can note the tracking code that is on the trackable and later go online to log a "Discovered" log. Edited April 28, 2016 by noncentric Quote Link to comment

A "dip" is when the person who has a bug logs it into a found cache than immeadiately takes it out. It never physically leaves their hands. Quote Link to comment
Pup Patrol
.... just reading the reviews n the shop.... def think they are supposed to stay put! Thanks x Yes, they are meant to stay on the automobile the owner has attached it to. When you go to log it, you will post a "discovered" log. B. Quote Link to comment

Well if it's attached to the car and you find a cache big enough to put the car in then I'm sure the owner wouldn't mind if it was logged like a normal bug. But it's basically just a big sticker saying "hey look at me I'm a geocacher" Quote Link to comment

Thanks x Yes, you're only supposed to discover the code... Some good info about Trackables here in the Help Center, and in Geocaching 101. BTW, what did you do with the trackable from August of last year? Quote Link to comment
