+Burton Kidz
I would like to move a cache to a new location. Is there any rule or guidance stating how far it can move - I'm thinking about moving one about 1 km from its present location. Is that reasonable? Quote Link to comment
+Bear and Ragged
How do I update coordinates for my geocache? Geocache owners may find it necessary to update their geocache's coordinates if the container has been moved or if the original coordinates are inaccurate. If the new coordinates are less than 161m/528 feet from the posted coordinates, the coordinates can be updated by the geocache owner. Before moving your container, review our geocache saturation guidelines and be aware of other geocaches in the area. Your move may put your geocache too close to other geocaches. If the new coordinates are too far from the original coordinates, a community volunteer reviewer will need to change the coordinates for you. You will receive a red error message at the bottom of the page and an email link to the original reviewer will be provided. In your email, please be sure to include: The GC code of your geocache The old and new coordinates The reason for the change In some cases, it may be more appropriate to archive the original geocache and submit the moved geocache as a new listing. Dont try to change the coordinates in two or more moves to increase the distance you can move a cache, the reviewers DO get notified! Edited June 23, 2015 by Bear and Ragged Quote Link to comment

Is there any rule or guidance stating how far it can move - I'm thinking about moving one about 1 km from its present location. Is that reasonable? In this case probably the best approach is archive it and submit a new listing. Moving it that far is a new experience finding it and it no longer is like the old one. But if your really insistent, ask the reviewer to update the coordinates. Of course the reviewer will treat this as a new cache and it has to meet all the current guidelines. Quote Link to comment
+Graculus
You can update the coordinates yourself but only if the move is less than 528 feet/161 meters. Beyond that you need to contact the reviewer who published the cache to make the change. You can in theory move a cache as far as you like but in the UK we generally won't move it beyond 3/4 miles (1Km). Beyond this it's a whole new location so really should be a new cache. When the coords are changed by the CO we do get notified and will review the new location to make sure there are no problems such as now being to close to another cache or the location is an area where proof of permission is required (see the UK Geocaching Policies Wiki for details of these - link under my signature). If there are problems we'll disable the cache, tell you the problem and ask you to sort things out. +Burton Kidz
Thanks for the helpful replies! The cache in question would be moved from one road sign to an identical one along the same stretch of road. I thought about archiving and creating a new one, but then it would lose all its favourite points - trivial, I know! I'll wait to see if it gets muggled again... Quote Link to comment

Yup, generally. I've had a cache published, and had the co-ords about 50 km off. I got the reviewer to fix it. Thanks for the helpful replies! Actually all logs, and favorite points will stay either the cache if it's archived. The cachers are free to remove their favorite point, but that is also true of active caches. So, no arching the cache does not remove favourite points. Quote Link to comment
