Notice proximity to a cache

Such as an audible proximity alarm on the app? That would drive some people nuts. :D
Which is why apps that implement such things usually don't have them enabled by default...

If you've got the app, you can choose "find nearby caches" & the list comes up, starting with the closest. No audible sound, though. In all but the most remote places, there's something nearby. Stop the car and take a look at your phone. Then choose "navigate to cache" & go there. Most places I check there's something within 2 miles, and usually within 1 mile.

/I swear that a few months ago my Iphone had a definite ring tone sound or signal when I neared a CACHE it was an alert that I was very close////but now it seems to not alert any more

I'm not sure how good the beep would be. If you go the way I mentioned in Post 4, you see (typically for my area) a half dozen close by. I'd rather choose from among the six than go to the closest. And how close is close for the beeping to start?

My Garmin handheld GPS will beep when I get 'close' to the cache I am looking for. But I have already selected the cache at that point, it is not telling me randomly that there is any cache nearby.

And in this case 'close' is based on the speed of approach. So if I am driving, it tells me about .5 - 1 mile out, whereas when I am walking, it tells me about 40 ft out.

For just nearby approaches, I don't have anything that gives me a beep, but if I have added the caches to my car GPS, I can see them on the map as I am driving near. And if I am on the map view page of my handheld, I can see the nearby caches on that map too if they have been loaded.

The app "NeonGeo" for Android beeps when you drive within a configured distance from a cache. I don't have an Android but a friend of mine does, and I've seen it in action beeping as we drove near caches.

I'm looking for something similar to radar warnings but for caches, whether to go by car I find that I'm around.

Thanks and regards.

My Etrex 20 is set to alert at 1/4 mile as is my Nuvi.
