Souvenirs ?

Hi,

 

Sorry if this is a silly question but how does a Geocacher get to find out about Souvenirs that become available ? Are they announced on the website ?

 

The only reason I ask is that on 16th August I got the International Geocaching Day 2014 Souvenir, I was not expecting it. I could have easily missed it but it just so happened I found a cache on that day.

 

Is there any way of being told or finding out in advance when these souvenirs become available ? Am I missing something simple ?

First off.... No question is too silly.

 

As for the souvenir you got, the 3rd Saturday of August is International Geocaching Day so for the past few years a souvenir has been given out.

Naturally the 7 Souvenirs of August in on the homepage of GS when you go to the website. They were announced in the newsletter as well and that is how most are made known.

Helpful to read the Blog time-to-time, subscribe to the newsletter and just stopping by once in awhile on these forums should keep you up to date.

That page is missing a lot of souvenirs, and lists only one of the 126 Mega/Giga event souvenirs that have been released. I've compiled a much more complete list here (shameless plug ).

 

As for announcements, those are usually made in the newsletter/blog. They did announce the IGD 2014 souvenir, but they buried it among other items and only mentioned it 2 weeks before the day. I missed that mention, but I usually keep track of any announced souvenirs on the site I linked to above. The front page of the souvenir section will always list the next 10 souvenirs/souvenir-campaigns that are upcoming (that I know about).
