+ecanderson
Some GPSr units that are hybrid GPS/GLONASS didn't fare well when the GLONASS system started sending corrupted data due to (they say) bad ephemerides data being sent to all of their satellites over a period of time. The problem existed in the time frame of about beginning ~2100 April 1 UTC until ~0800 April 2 UTC. Anyone out there with a GLONASS capable unit have any comment on performance during that period? +cliptwings
Well, that must be the answer! My Oregon 600, with GLONASS enabled, was doing some real acrobatics during the aforementioned time period. These included loss of signal (with a clear, blue sky), and position changing miles in mere seconds. My display would blank out, then return in a totally different area! And I just thought it was the last update going bonkers. Quote Link to comment
+gpsblake
Conspiracy theories are saying NSA was sending the Russians a message. Hummm, one does wonder. Quote Link to comment
+Mineral2
wouldn't it be the other way around? It could be the Russians messing with us. Quote Link to comment
+ecanderson
Actually, they messed with everyone, in particular the Australians for whom GLONASS is actually preferred when available due to its better performance at higher latitudes. Quote Link to comment
robertlipe
It was a documented outage that took the entire GLONASS fleet out for over ten hours. http://gpstracklog.com/2014/04/fooling-april-1-gnss-fix-issue-returns.html https://support.smartnetna.com/entries/48609248-RESOLVED-GLONASS-Ephemeris-Issue-April-1-2014 http://www.insidegnss.com/node/3979 Quote Link to comment
