I have friends that are basic members that get email notifications. They joined years before me so is that not an option anymore?

Instant notifications are a Premium Member benefit.

Notification about their own caches? All users get those. Same if you log "will attend" and the event host makes an announcement. All others for premium members, and far as I know always have been.

I think watching a cache might (or might not) also give you e-mail notifications as well. I'm not sure - neither of the ones I started watching recently have had anything happen on them yet...

I get most of my information re new caches etc. from the newsletter sent out weekly. Definitely not instant, but then neither am I.

 

I also browse the area(s) I'm going to be in (mostly home ) on the Hide and Seek page map view. Green boxes stand out in the middle of the yellow smileys. Of course there are still a limited number of caches either way.

 

Always keep tabs on your account settings and make sure your email address is up to date and that you check it.

 

That goes for whatever you might expect to come. Pays to know where the forum Private Messaging system indicates as well up in the right corner beside your avatar. Many just ignore messages there as well.

 

To BST: I get watch list notifications on several caches and trackables as a basic member.

They aren't getting the PM feature "instant notifications".

 

They are probably getting emails about various things, as suggested in the previous posts.

 

As far as I know, "instant notifications" have always been a PM perk.
