Oregon 600 Proximity alarm

Recommended Posts

I have tried the new Oregon 600 today.

Is it possible to get an alarm if a geocache is nearby without having chosen it

No Garmin offers that. On the Nuvi s you have to load a special CSV file using the POI loader. Don't know if that works on any handheld. Might be worth a shot. I think they assume you would be looking for it so wouldn't need a beep. You can just use a dash mount and glance at the screen occassionally

If you can make a poi file out of these geocaches you will be able to set a distance alarm.

This will work on most Garmin gps'es.

It can be done. On my Etrex 20 I can take a cache and save it as a waypoint, then set a proximity alarm. I'm sure the new Oregon will be able to do the same.

Only individually unfortunately, but just discovered you can do it directly for caches, no need to convert to waypoint.
