+DieCacherGirls
Hello, we just started Waymarking so please excuse me if this does not make sense, just some thoughts... In Europe there are many explicitly marked trails/routes for Nordic Walking (engl. pole walking). I started posting one of them in the category "Hiking and Walking Trailheads" (Waymark Code: WMFGFP), but I think this does not really fits in there. The pole walking trails are usually very short (3-8 km) compared to real hiking trails. Hiking is possible on these routes, but not really intended; there are also some trails for technical training, which make no sense without two poles. Some of these trails are used in snowy winters for cross country skiing. Official pole walking trails are hosted by a sports institution (e.g. Deutscher Skiverband/DSV) or by the local city. They always have more than one trail (mostly 2-5 trails which can be combined) and info boards on the trails (e.g. with technical details, heartbeat measurement info, warm-up exercises). As a DSV pole walking trainer I would like to collect them in a separate category, because they are neither real hiking trails nor real fitness trails (although pole walking is seldomly connected to a fitness trail, a rare example is Waymark Code: WMFDF5). What's your opinion as experienced waymarkers? Warm regards, DasCacherGirl2 Quote Link to comment
+Max and 99
The pole walking trails are usually very short (3-8 km) compared to real hiking trails. I consider that a REAL hiking trail. Quote Link to comment
+BruceS
Hiking and walking trailheads is the appropriate category, it is a very inclusive category. It is for any trail for walking/hiking without regard to length or technique used. Edited December 13, 2012 by BruceS Quote Link to comment
