GPSMAP 62S caches show on map but not list

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I've searched the forum, which is incredibly difficult since you can't have 3 letter words in your search? but haven't found this problem (even though I'm sure it has been discussed somewhere) and would appreciate an extra large clue.

In short, my geocaches can be seen on the map but not on the list when I "find/geocaches".

Here's what happened in detail. I manually loaded a half dozen or so caches locally, clicking on them one at a time and sending them to my unit. I went out and searched for them and everything operated as it should. I later went back home and ran a PQ on a couple hundred caches out of town and sent them to my unit just like I always have with my older Cx, by using Map Source.

When I arrived in this other town, a relatively short distance away and pressed "find" "geocaches" the only caches that show up on the list are the caches I manually loaded in my home town. I could see all the PQ caches on my GPSr's "map" but they don't show on the list. I could navigate to a cache by moving the cursor to the cache or pressing "find" and then "waypoint" but I get no cache information, only its way point.

Any help would be appreciated.

I would also like to take the opportunity to say if it was not for the paperless friendly feature of the 62S I would much prefer to use my 62Cx and my 62Cx was also much faster and significantly more sensitive than this 62S.... but I lost that wonderful unit, unfortunately.

Are you saying the caches appear as waypoints and not caches?

The caches on the 'map view' on the unit appear as normal caches whether I loaded them one click at a time or from a PQ...but when I press "find" / "geocache" they do not appear on the list at all, only the caches I loaded one click at a time appear (on the list).

I also just noticed when I click (from a PC) on a cache on the screen I've already loaded into my unit I'll get that message stating it already exists and do I want to overwrite. OK, fine, I get that but when I click on a cache that was part of my PQ I do not get that same message even though the PQ is on my unit.

When I plugged in my unit to my PC and view it like you would any other thumb drive etc. I can see the .gpx file (the PQ) on my unit and it has a file size but those caches do not come up on the list when pressing on the unit "find" / "geocache".

I haven't tried Base Camp yet. I'd be surprised if that alone is the fix all since I see the PQ on my unit, on my PC screen, on my unit map but not on my unit "list".

I meant 60Cx.... right now seems more sensitive and better than this 62S

All the caches on the map view show as caches, however, only the ones loaded one at a time can be navigated to by pressing find/geocache because only those loaded one at a time show on the list.

Sorry for the density but I don't know what you mean by folder. If I look at my device through a PC while it is connected via USB, I see the caches loaded one at a time AND the PQ caches in the same place or 'folder' but in the field I cannot navigate to the PQ caches nor see any of the cache page information.

I've loaded new PQs and the problem persists. It seems clear there is some hiccup when loading PQs but I can't figure out what it is. The file is there, I can see it and they show as caches on the map but not the list. You all know what I mean when I say 'map' and 'list', right?

The PQ file is in the GPX folder with all the other geocaches I loaded one click at a time. They show up in the waypoint list (find/waypoint) but so do the caches I loaded one click at a time. The do not show in the geocache list (find/geocache)... but they show on the map....as geocaches...not waypoints.

I'll try Base Camp...

Yesterday, just dragging the files from one GUI to the other seemed to work but I had such a mix of manually loaded caches and a couple PQs I wasn't 100% certain that did the trick. I'll report back with confirmation; thank you for the help. I want to delete all and start with a fresh PQ. I like the idea of using Base Camp to edit if I want in lieu of sending the whole PQ but right now I'll be happy with any working method. Now I need to learn another software, ugh.
