Downloading caches

The first question from any of us will be ... how are you getting your caches from gc.com? I see that you are a premium member. Have you ever set up and run a pocket query on gc.com? It's a large part of what makes your $30 a year annual membership worth it. If you don't know about pocket queries, let us know, because you'll have to start there before we even begin the discussion of ways to get them onto your Oregon (which can be quick and dirty or elegant and more informative).

Also, there is a question as to whether you are in a high density cache area. It may not be possible to get all of the caches in a 40 mile radius (or diameter - you didn't say which) loaded into your Oregon as caches. You have a limit of 5000 caches, and believe me, where I live, that won't cover a 40 mile area.

Thank you for the above info, yes, we have used pocket queries before, in fact that is what we tried , but just ended up with all the caches we had already found! Not much use! We do think maybe we asked for all found caches, but not sure how we did it. How do we just download caches still to find? and can we remove the found caches we have downloaded? We have a 8mg sd card in the Oregon, are we right in thinking we will be able to store many caches?

Maybe we should reduce our area too. We did have a go at another query, but now know we can only do one every 3 days, so will have to wait.

Thanks again for your reply

The PQs (pocket queries) are probably compressed .zip files? If they are compressed they must be un-compressed or extracted. Then they must be placed in the gpx folder in you GPS or the microSD memory. You will find the gpx folder in the garmin folder. You will have to make a garmin and gpx file on the external memory. The Montana's basic operation is the same as the Oregon. Here is the manual that Garmin should have made to answer most of your questions.
