+bodisafa
who else would like to import/export waypoints without having to download to your GPS first then back to your map program? would you like to be able to export to Garmin or Magellan map programs directly from EasyGPS or Import from the map programs? A waypoint standard or a universal waypoint/icon translator, wow what a concept. how about being able to set waypoint properties to multiple waypoints such as Icon type and text display or not? (too much to ask?) would you be willing to pay for such a beast? Remember this: A friend will help you move; but a good friend will help you move a body. Link to comment
+Stunod
You mean like GPSBabel does? Link to comment
+Red Barron
That would be nice, but for all the fun I get out of $30 preyear, I would not ask for to much. I realy appreciate the game. Link to comment
+ClayJar
There are several projects worthy of mention. gpsbabel does all sorts of conversions Spinner is useful for those who want to mangle their waypoint schemes and icons bmgpx will actually give you PQ-style GPX files from benchmark data gpxdoc will convert your PQ GPX files to PalmDoc format, if you want to read them directly on your PDA The program I write, Watcher, isn't a conversion program. Rather, it's like having Geocaching.com on steroids on your desktop. I haven't gotten to integrating Watcher with the other programs yet (you'll have to do them by hand for now), but that *is* on my list. (It'd be nice to just say "File | Export | PalmDoc" right from Watcher.) Anyway, I've certainly missed some things, but as you can see, the application field is blossoming quite nicely. Oh, and if you need any help with any of these, just come to the geocaching chat. We've got cachers that are well-versed in all of these (especially considering that programmers from each thing listed above come to the chat quite often). (Incidentally, my vote would have to be "(6) It already exists, but it's still improving.") +bodisafa
thanks for the reply. after posting this I finally found the Near perfect solution to my delima. it's called GarTrax and it is easy to use, allows the conversion of multiple waypoints, lets you change their symbol and even their display properties. You can them open them in mapsource or send them to the gps with these attributes already set. The other programs mentioned in earlier replies aren't (as an eccentric uncle of mine used to put it) worth hitting a bull in the butt with a base fiddle espesially when compared the GarTrax. Since I have both Garmin and Magellan GPS units, I prefer to use the tools that work with both, like gpsbabel, Watcher, GPX Spinner and Easy/Expert GPS. Once you get gpsbabel set up in a batch/macro file, it's simple to use and fast. Same goes with GPX Spinner. Watcher and Easy/Expert GPS have intuitive GUI's so have very short learning curves. --Marky "All of us get lost in the darkness, dreamers learn to steer with a backlit GPSr" Link to comment
