I am sure this question has been asked before. Is there a way to find caches within your state with the letter or number you need to finish the challenge?

Hi softballmom - here's a more detailed answer to your question.

 

I see that there are 26345 caches in PA.

By using date-ranged pocket queries, you could get all of the caches in the state downloaded in 6 days. The hardest part of this is fiddling with dates to have range that returns slightly less then 1000 caches. Once you've set this up, its useful for a long while. Sometimes you'll find the needed date ranges on local geocaching sites.

 

When you have this enormous pile o' data, you put it all into a GSAK database (GSAK being a gpx handling program).

Once they are loaded into your GSAK database, you can filter on the number or letter you are looking for.
