+Cacher_Penguin
Hi I'm new to geocaching, and was wondering how others record the caches they find apart from on the site. I want to use a notebook and pen. Any tips/advice appreciated Thanks in advance Roz Quote Link to comment
cheryl1701
well i cant speak for everybody, because i know of several cachers who do keep a personal logbook, i just use my profile page if i want to look back at all my finds. you will even notice some cachers who have their own personal blog pages of their finds. however you want to do this is it's your choice, I take a picture at most every cache i go to, I tend to remember them better when i look at the pictures. perhaps this is not what you meant, if so please be more specific. jholly
Most log finds on the site. Some also keep finds in a waypoint managing program, excel, as text files or paper and pen. The choice is yours. Quote Link to comment
+Semper Questio
I don't. Logging on the site is good enough for me. However, I do bookmark FTF's, Firsts, and Milestones although I have considered even not doing that any more. Quote Link to comment
+hzoi
I used to have a caching journal when I first got started, but I lost it. (Even before I lost it, I found I was using it less and less.) After that, I just started keeping track on scraps of paper, just something to keep track of which ones we found (or not), notes on particular caches, and codes for trackable items. As soon as I log everything from the paper on the website, the paper goes in the recycling bin. And if I want to keep notes on a cache I haven't logged yet, like the final coordinates for a puzzle I solved, I'll just create a private bookmark list and track it there. Quote Link to comment
+spotter/g
I too like to keep an analog copy of my finds, so this is what I do. After I make a log on a cache (found it, DNF or just a note) I go back to the cache page and down load a 'print with 5 logs'. That gives me a record of the cache and my log along with a map. Now when I am out caching I take a field notebook in which I record what ever I want to about the cache while I am there. Each cache gets it own page there. Next I put the printed cache pages with the log in a 3 ring binder, and then I tape the page out of the field notebook somewhere on those pages. Next, since I take so many pics when I am caching, I then add prints in between. All this work gets me a real nice scrap book of my caching adventures. But it takes lots of work, and lots of space. I am at 449 finds (in 8 years!) and they all fill up about 20 three ring binders, and two whole shelves. In fact i need to get a bigger shelf! I am sure you can come up with some suitable solution. It is nice to just run back and grab a notebook to show someone, or just to look back too. Happy caching Quote Link to comment
