+Hot Pepper Crew
I bought a Garmin Vista HCx yesterday and spent several hours trying to load a Pocket Query onto the 2GB microSD card that I put into it with no success. Today I called Garmin and was told that the MicroSD card is only for maps, all waypoints have to be loaded on the internal memory, which is limited to 1000 waypoints. 1000 geocaches only gets me a 15 mile radius from my house. I was obviously hoping to get farther. Does anyone know of any way to make the Vista HCx recognize waypoints from the memory card? I have used MapSource and it says it loads them on, but they don't show up. I have also just tried manually transferring the .gpx files into the [Drive]/garmin/GPX/ file. No success with either method. The Vista just shows "None Found" when I pull up Find Waypoints or Find Geocache. I tried another microSD card as well. I am able to load the PQ into the internal memory however. Any suggestions? Quote Link to comment
+CacheFreakTim
The memory card has nothing to do with the number of Geocaches you can load on to your unit. Every GPS has a maximum amount of caches/waypoints it can hold. If yours is 1000 that is the most you can have. Like Garmin said the memory card is just for maps. It's a bummer I know. +BlueDeuce
Your Vista will hold 1000. I do believe you can add more in the extra memory as custom POIs. Quote Link to comment
+Panther&Pine
I have the same GPS you do. I use GSAK (I have warm and fuzzy feelings for GSAK) to make sure that those 1,000 caches are sort of relevent to my weekend/week/trip. I've heard rumours that you can some how load extras into the waypoints section of the internal memory- but I've never bothered to figure it out. Granted 1,000 caches gets me 47 mile circle around my house so that sort of helps. Quote Link to comment

Yeah, I think you have to use the 60CSx GSAK macro. link I was going to try it on my Vista HCx but got a NUVI before I started (Bigger reading screen on the NUVI for paperless.) Quote Link to comment

I've decided that next time I go on a long trip (over 500 miles each way) I'll figure it out. But for now I use a GSAK filter and do it that way. Next GPS I buy is going to be a WhizBang paperless model that I can put 5,000 caches onto. Quote Link to comment

Thanks for the directions! Quote Link to comment

GSAK looks like a pretty great program too. It's too bad Garmin doesn't make this feature accessible by default. I almost took back the GPSr when they told me over the phone that I could only load to the internal memory. Quote Link to comment
