How often should you log a DNF on the same cache?

How often should you log a DNF on the same cache? If I try to find a cache and fail I will log a DNF, but if I try again for the same cache and still DNF should I add another DNF log entry or should the first one suffice no matter many times I try again and fail?

Just want to share my strategy for DNF and other logging.

When going to a cache and can't find it, log DNF. Cache goes on my watchlist - then I'll see when someone else finds it - and only when it has logged another find or there is a note from CO confirming the cache is still there, I'll try again. It's been often enough that I couldn't find a cache for it not being there.

Any subsequent attempt, fail again: log DNF again. And wait some more.

And when not being able to reach GZ (the tide too high, park closed, construction going on, whatever) I will log a note telling that I tried to visit but failed to reach GZ and why. In case of construction it may well mean the cache has gone, so again important info for CO. And in other situations it may be helpful for other cachers to plan their trip.

IMO, every time you attempt to look for it.

The only time I don't log a subsequent DNF is if I have already DNF'd a cache looking for it and the next time I get turned away due to muggles or some other non-cache placement reason.

Some CO go search out their caches after X number of DNFs and I don't want to trigger this just because I didn't find it "actually looking" once.

I log a DNF each time I actually get to the cache location and do a search. If I drive or walk by without making a concerted effort I do nothing, but as soon as I actually *try*, then I log a DNF.

Though each time I log a DNF, I usually shoot the CO or the most recent finder an email requesting a little nudge. Most of the time I get a response and I can keep thinking about it... or we mutually find out that a cache is missing.
