BLaZuRE
What do you recommend, Droid or a GPS? What's the difference between using an app like c:geo on Droid vs using a GPS device? Are they both accurate or is one more accurate than the other? Also, are there apps that will be more accurate than others? Does accuracy even matter much with geocaching? (This is coming from first-timers looking for their first cache). Quote Link to comment
NordicMan
Hi check out this thread: http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=265176 It's discussing iPhones not Android, however most of the conversation points apply to any smartphone Quote Link to comment
+Wes_and_Miles
I have a droid (HTC Incredible) and a Garmin Oregon. I find the droid a much better and even a more accurate caching tool. I use the Oregon only when I want a map and won't have cell coverage. Quote Link to comment
+bswanderer
Started with a Garmin nuvi than droid1 and now Droid X. All three are pretty accurate (remember, the biggest issue you'll find is the accuracy of the person hiding the cach). On the Garmin you will need to either download caches from BC.com or use gsak (great program) With the droids, there are many great programs with a multitude of great features to help. BLaZuRE
Thanks for your replies. The first post about iPhones points out how it's horrible for hiding caches because of its bad coordinates. Is that relatable to to Droids? On a side note, does anyone recommend a good mapping service besides Google? Quote Link to comment

Is that relatable to to Droids? YMMV. some people claim that it's as accurate or even more accurate than their GPSr, but then again there's also people saying that about their iphones. other people have major accuracy problems. my only "personal" experience with a droid was when trying to get a droid using friend into geocaching. his phone told him that the cache was "here" about 50 meters from the actual coords. that wasn't fun. Rushmantlt
I have a Droid phone and downloaded the free GPS Essentials app. Once I learned how to use it I walked to within 1 ft of 2 small caches. It's a little slow updating your position though, so you can walk a few yards then stop and let it catch up to your actual position. Quote Link to comment
