+user13371 Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 (edited) I've got a couple PQs that look for Chirps. Sorting a few different ways, noticed some strange things: 1) I'm not finding any beacon attribute caches anywhere in South America 2) I'm only finding a couple in the tropics (that is, within 23 degrees either side of the equator) That just seems weird to me. Am I missing something in my PQs? Edited December 19, 2010 by Portland Cyclist Quote
+Isonzo Karst Posted December 19, 2010 Posted December 19, 2010 I modified my all states (US) query to ask for caches with the Beacon attribute, and it returned 113 caches total. So 'Im not surprised that they're rare in parts of the world where caches generally are rare. I did find a bookmarked list of them, that has just under 200 http://www.geocaching.com/bookmarks/view.a...0e-d6c93cd7ca44 Quote

Am I missing something in my PQs? On thing to consider is that the devices are slow in being accepted as appropriate uses of radio spectrum in a few places... I know at one point that they were under consideration for certain frequencies in Canada. I think that has changed now. Just because things are fine in the US does not apply immediately to everywhere else. On the other hand, the ANT technology is originally from Alberta... and is now owned by Garmin according to the website... Things will come around eventually... I've said in another thread that a non GPS controller/reader would make some sense to make available for people that don't care to buy yet another GPSr... They must be available in some form for all the other ANT modules to be read... Doug 7rxc Quote
