+BCandMsKitty
A friend is involved with helping to train and practice Police Dogs, and was asking me if there is a GPSr that will record your track (of course there is!), and then record a second track later which can then be overlaid on the first to compare the two tracks. I guess because he knows I geocache, that I am now the local expert on GPSrs They want to lay out a trail for the dogs and then see how close they get to it. Comparing the tracks would help see where the dog might go astray, and what might influence that. Anyone know of a unit that can do this? Thanks Loris Quote Link to comment
+New Jersey TJ
I'm not aware of a GPS unit that displays more than one track, but I'd think you'd want to do the on a larger screen in any event. There are many applications, Google Maps, for example, that can display multiple tracks. Quote Link to comment

Thanks Loris This would be easiest to do by loading both tracks to a computer and comparing them there with Mapsource or Basecamp if the unit is a Garmin, or whatever is provided if it's another manufacturer. +BCandMsKitty
Sounds like they'll have to learn to use their laptop. Thanks for the advice. Quote Link to comment
+Red90
Sure. All the newer Garmin handhelds (Oregon, Dakota, 62, 78) can display multiple tracks at once. http://garminoregon.wikispaces.com/Tracks#...0on%20the%20map? Quote Link to comment
+RRLover
The Astro(?) line from Garmin is dedicated to working w/upland field dogs & possibly sight/scent hounds. Fairly close to what SAR and perp. tracking would entail. Working in conjunction w/the Garmin software on an portable or base PC should be fairly straight forward. Although working in 'real-time' on the PC may present some significant challenges, post event analysis should be "a cake walk". Norm P. S. : Lil' girl in my avatar has one leg towards a tracking title, we'll see how it goes, she is ambitious. The Groundspeak software squashed the image due to my not cropping to the correct dimensions. Edited November 11, 2010 by RRLover Quote Link to comment
